I'm all for technology, but I really don't think being on a computer when you're very young is a good thing. Because it is quite addicting, and younger kids don't really know how to control themselves, so they end up playing for hours and getting obsessed by it.
Basically a generation of myopia
Hence why I went from programing to marine merchant ships.
an average of six and a half hours a day in front of a screen
Fucking casuals
I find it interesting it's still viewed as a bad thing to sit on the computer.
I my work day is 10 hours long, I go to gym and I eat well and get plenty of sleep. But you spend the weekend on a computer doing stuff you enjoy and people think you don't know how to enjoy your life.

And the funny thing is that these people who complain about people being glued to a screen often sit in front of the TV for many hours watching the awfulness of Daytime TV.

Yeah I sit in front of a screen for 12 hours a day. Granted, 8.5 of those are at work.

Or they act as if video games are nothing more than killing people, and that video games can't also be a learning/social experience if used right, and if done well, can be an interactive story equal to reading a book.
learning to manage a team of other human beings through video games (in moderation) can definitely help a child learn the basics of leadership skills/multitasking management, even if very minor. Strategy games especially.

To be fair when you're below 15 if you're staying more time on your computer than doing anything else you're doing something wrong, mostly because it'll obliterate your eyesight.

I there actually any truth to that? I can't say I know anyone who got bad eyesight from being glued to the screen.

Might have been true back in the days of the CRT, but I'm pretty sure LCD displays don't affect your eyesight.

Yeah man, gotta watch out for that ever so dangerous electromagnetic radiation.
Deary me, just uttering those words gives me the shivers.

It's a complete and utter myth. Sitting close to a TV or computer screen will not damage your eyesight. It can, however, cause eye strain problems.

I'm sure all of us have been told off by our parents to stop playing video games or watching TV. Now for me my parents are either watching TV dramas on my mum's iPad or doing random shit on their phones, even when we go out for dinner with family friends and stuff.
When our home internet goes down my dad is always the first one to get fed up with no internet while I'm usually just like "huh. well I'll just wait until it's back up again" :v:

They said screen time. I'd imagine the majority is kids playing angry birds or something.

Besides I'm pretty sure reading a book in bad lighting would be much worse.

I developed nearsightedness from using the computer monitor heavily since 2008, Errythang is blurry now.
EDIT:
It happens because your eyes become strained to focusing on the monitor at a close distance, they just give up and won't adjust to look at things further anymore

It would not. Reading in the dark damaging your eyesight is a myth. According to google all it does is tire your eyes faster but no permanent damage is caused. It would make no sense for low light conditions to damage your eyesight. All it does is makes your eyes work harder to process the information thus the tiring effect.
Now on the other hand looking at bright screen in the dark can do it.

Yeah you'd get the exact same effect if you read lots of books or do something like maintaining watches.
