I think the Moto Mods did a lot better job than what LG promised with the G5, at the very least. This coming from someone who owns the G5. I also like that they're at least committed for another generation or two to give it a real chance to flourish, whereas LG has already dropped the idea with the G6.
No headphone jack is a no go tho.
Why can't they just make a G3 with updated specs? I ended up moving away from mine as it was starting to feel a bit flimsy. Got a Cat S60 aka bullit.
I ended up giving my G3 to my mum as a daily driver and she loves it. (A bit ott for someone who just uses face book but eh)

They did, it's the G4 :v:
The G6 is also practically the same thing but they followed the trend of not having removable batteries unfortunately.
I'm pretty happy with my Moto Z since I use the the speaker and batter back practically everyday. The camera is nice too, but I wish they came out with a newer one. My only gripes is the no headphone jack but I use Bluetooth headphones so I work around it, that and the lack of cases that allow mods. You think that would be something prominent but a lot of cases all say "yeah you can't use mods with this, not even a battery pack" for me my disappoinment comes from the lack of moduals. The only new ones that came out was an updated speaker and a controller one, I was hoping for more or at least up to date ones
