For the past 2 days I haven't been able to connect to Steam. When I open Steam, it tries to update, and I get this message: "Steam is temporarily unavailable, please try again later." I tried reinstalling Steam, but it didn't fix the problem. In fact, it made the problem worse. The Steam platform update process has become stuck in a loop. The progress bar goes from 0% to 100% then restarts. Continuously. Never ending. Over and over again. I even tried repairing my Steam installation multiple times, but to no avail. Needless to say, at this point I am very frustrated. I want to play New Vegas, goddammit. Help?
Ensure that Steam is fully closed (kill it in the Task Manager if necessary). Delete the "ClientRegistry.blob" file in your Steam folder. Run Steam again. -C:\Program Files\Steam\ClientRegistry.blob Or try to get into steampowered.com support? Do a search for 'verify my gfc files' and run the link provided. This will make sure that none of your files have become corrupted. Or delete steam from the firewall permission list, and added it again whit full permission. Or Go here (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711) -then go to your modem's homepage (192.168.0.1 most likely) and add those ports to the firewall exceptions. Steam should work fine after that. I knew about the first 2, but upon searching forums I noticed several said those didnt always work so i found some more solutions people have used. Hope I helped and that one of these worked. Or -boot OS is safe mode WITH NETWORKING -launch steam and let it update -Restart back into normal windows mode
Steam was being weird, last I heard. I've been in Offline mode for 2 weeks now because of my network administrator's retardedness, so I can't confirm.
I just got back from work and I haven't really had time to try any of your suggestions, deathdealer2009. So far I've only tried the first one, and it didn't work. Imma try the others. [editline]1st November 2010[/editline] By the way, how is it possible to verify my CFG files if I can't even get steam to update? [editline]1st November 2010[/editline] Now the Steam update will only go from 0%-26% and keep looping. It will loop about 10 times then it will give me the same error message then quit. WTF!!! :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh:
Try this the only thing I've ever seen that might actually do something http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2010/07/19/fix-steam-is-temporarily-unavailable-please-try-later-by-changing-download-region/ I've had this problem before I don't know how it was fixed, I think I renewed my ip after deleting ClientRegistry.blob file.
Thanks, I was hopeful, but editing the blob file didn't help either. It's still up to the same old shenanigans. I've tried almost every US server, a handful of UK servers, and I've manually entered IPs, and it still doesn't work. I don't get it. Why is this happening? A reinstall/repair SHOULD fix the problem, but it's not. I can access steam just fine from my other computer, so I know it's not the network settings. FML.
Have you checked the Steam forums?
Ok, it just randomly fixed itself. :downsgun: All is well. WTF. Thanks for all your help, though.
yea steam is like that sometimes, i had the same problem but for me deleting that .blob file worked. im glad all worked out
Same problem here, its been almost 2 weeks
Oh my god it's doing it AGAIN. UUUUUUGH!! I hate Steam so much. :argh:
