Immersive games that make you forget about reality

I played the whole of Half-Life 2 and the episodes in one go, and pretty much forgot about reality.
Pong
Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing
New Vegas
Heavily modded New Vegas
hatoful boyfriend
Crysis
Half-Life 2
Dark Souls
Bethesda games in general, especially with mods
Also pretty much all the fallout games. New Vegas has especially been a great escape for me
Earthbound
Runescape, back in middle school. :v:
Dwarf Fortress for me. You boot it up and then suddenly 3 hours have passed and your entire civilization has burnt to death because someone left a sock in a doorway.
Good times.
second life
New Vegas has already been said, so I'll go for Mount and Blade Warband
Its my second most played game on Steam next to TF2, and I can get lost in a good session for ages and completely lose track of time ; "oh, I'll just loot this caravan, smash this lord, quickly get enough money to buy this new sword... and then go and kill something in a battle with it before I finish. Ok, time to sto- Oh look, some caravans!"
At least a quarter of my time in Warband has also been spent playing every iteration of Mount and Musket from the earliest beta to the final expansion release, and I got quite good at it until I had an involuntary hiatus from gaming (imagine not playing TF2 for a year, only 10x worse) and regimental elitism skyrocketed; literally the whole atmosphere of the "community" makes me to want to vomit
Case in point(s) the one individual who always stood out was the leader of the 92nd who made ridiculous moves towards trying to be *the* pillar of the community, at one point even declaring there should be a "regiment council" that can decide which regiments are "official" or not and shit like that, despite just being some guy who got some friends together and had no affiliation with the developers whatsoever
Diplex Heated, who otherwise made some pretty good content on his youtube channel on strategy games, I heard ranted and swore out of spite in a rival regiment's teamspeak after his regiment lost a match against them.
So ironically its seeing stuff like that makes me remember the shitty reality of life
Alcohol. I got my fuckin' charisma-stat maxed in it.
GTA5
Skyrim
Final Fantasy X.

So ironically its seeing stuff like that makes me remember the shitty reality of life
92nd was Tavington right? Always had a dislike of him. And I can confirm the Diplex thing, as that happened to me/the 8th. When I set that 1v1 up I didn't even know it was Diplex's regiment. Was basically just spamming anyone on my steam list with regimental tags to see if they wanted to do a 1v1 that night :v: Jorge and I still laugh about that some times.
The 8th doesn't really do 'the community' like other regiments do. We just sorta exist and do linebattles. We take things seriously, while at the same time not really. We just do our shit and have fun doing it. We tend not to get pulled into the drama, unless extremely necessary.
Can't forget the accusations against the lead dev, Vincenzo, being a pedo. Or the time Aldemar got mad at me because a regiment I made for WWI things that had the same name as his, the 84e. I had reserved a spot in the mod "Iron Europe" far before he even knew of its existence. One day he comes to our TS and starts bitching at me and throwing threats around because of the name, when I was being civil and just trying to talk it out with him (first thing he said to me was "You've made me resort to threats"). When I didn't give him what he wanted (a complete name change) he came back a couple days later with Vincenzo and tried threatening us that way. Vincenzo threatened us with perma bans from the game if we didn't give in. Didn't work in the end, because a solution I had given the first time around worked when Aldemar said it himself. With that, it was done with and Aldemar even apologized to me. Felt good.
That's the most non-8th related drama the 8th has been a part of.
Honestly, once you get past the shit, NW is one of the most rewarding MP experiences out there. that's my immersive game. Especially when I'm in the zone getting bayonet kills left and right.
only to be killed by a downspammer.
POSTAL 2
Shadowrun: Dragonfall
Red Dead Redemption
Also Neopets, back in high school
Morrowind. It's the best of the Elder Scrolls because the world feels so living.
Skyrim with all the wildlife/vegetation mods, npc mods, frostfall, primary needs and one of the realistic first person mods. I seriously role play a hunter/camper/traveller for hours and do nothing productive.
Tomb Raider 2013:
Extreme empathy for the character (because she's a badass but also an archaeologist, so, like, wow this is some Indiana Jones shit right here. That motivates me to pay attention from the get-go. But also she is a young person around my age whom I can relate to. And to be perfectly honest, because she is a well-done female protagonist which is something I respond to for cultural reasons. All that being besides the fact that she is a well-written, well-executed character.)
Survival instincts engaged by a plausible, dynamic, yet constantly threatening, near-death scenario; great pacing of events! Good "explore at your own speed" sections that nonetheless aren't boring due to an environment with a backstory, populated with either hints of people who had been here before, or nifty trinkets after the novelty of finding the first things wore off. Lots of discovery, whether through story revelations, new geography to explore, or new character developments, including Lara's weapon upgrades as part of her evolution as a killer. (Can we call her a killer? She's the protagonist, but come on. Morally, killing is still a bad thing to have to do. And she uses her weapons to kill things.)
Riveting story (because life and death, but also we know everyone whose life hangs in the balance. Devs did a very good job of introducing us to the cast. The writing is decent, much exceeding run of the mill quality for this genre.)
The legend of Zelda series. And also, Half Life series as well.
Any MMO you get sucked into fits this bill :v:
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Believe it or not, Dune 2000 :v:
Vectorworks2014
Alien: Isolation
the sims, whever I play it I boot it up at like 8pm and when I'm done its 4am
Oblivion, fallout 3 and skyrim
