I am getting alot of mixed opinions on mouse pads and I need help. Currently I have this one http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Standard-Mouse-Pad-Blue/dp/B00004Z59A , I want a VALVe one but I heard some bad things about them. I don't want to spend more then 20 on just a mouse pad but I also don't want a cheap one. I have a G5 if that helps.
The valve ones crease really easily and aren't soft.
More of a surface than a pad but I use one of these. http://xoxide.com/blblfumosu.html
I also have a G5 so I can confirm it is compatible.
I have this large rectangle one from Wowpad that I have had forever, I would recommend it.

DO NOT ORDER FROM QPAD STORE. I ordered from them for my birthday, and they haven't responded to anything, and that was in August.
I've used the surface1030 in the past, and found it to be a little more coarse then I like my mouse pads to be.
Here's my recommendation. Get one of these:

It's super smooth, it's all kinds of comfortable, and it's giant(18"x16"). If, however, you prefer a mouse pad less large, just get the smaller (still 12"x11") one and save yourself 5 bucks.

I use this, it's awesome! :)
SteelSeries 5L

Big (15"x11") and comfortable mousepad, smooth, very low friction, feels great, durable. Might be expensive, but it's the greatest pad I've ever used in my life.
It's a lot better than cloth pads in my opinion.
I use the SteelSeries QcK, cheap but reliable and big enough. Using it with a G9

Use your desk. I have yet to see modern optical mice jump around on wood surfaces.
Save yourself $10.

I thought the same until I got bored of having to wipe the traces of my G5s feet off the desk
QCK mini here, it's comfortable
These take a few weeks to come but they're surprisingly high quality and nice.
Still using mine.
forget to put link to that $3 mousepad thread the people below mentioned.
There should be that thread in GD with the $3 mousepad. That's what I use with my mouse and it's great. I have a Deathadder, which is optical, though my desk is full of deep scratches and pits which the mouse sensor may not jump on, though it slows the physical movement down. With the pad, I get a consistent, smooth movement.
Buy one of those custom mousepads for $2.99 with free shipping. It's on a thread in facepunch. They are fucking awesome.

Mine skips about on my desk. Maybe because it's varnished and shiny or something I dunno. I'm both lazy and cheap, so I make do with this writing pad.

I traced the outline of where the mouse should be in the dead centre, because I'm obsessive about things like that.

Just use any smooth surface for a mousepad - it'll do.
I use my wooden desk, it seems to work best.
$3 mousepad, I'm using one right now - these things are awesome

first one, enter code MSPD99
I use a dilbert one I bought at a garage sale for a dime.

I have one to IT rocks mine is :smug: I think I still have the scaled up version if anyone wants it.
How much are you looking to spend on one? I'd recommend the SteelSeries QcK line if you want a really high quality mouse pad. The downside is they're a bit on the expensive side as far as mousepads go.

I have the QcK+, it's a very nice pad with a huge goddamn surface.

The problem with not using a mouse pad is that it wears down the desk surface and gives you this huge callus wherever part of your hand rubs on it. I've had the same desk since 1997 for my various computers over the years and the spot where my mouse has resided for 12+ years has a parabolic wear hole and the trim on the side of the desk also has a dip where it's been worn off.

I found them pretty damn cheap, the QCK+ Mini I'm using was one of the few cheapest I could find
The Razer Mantis Control Mat - it's a helicopter landing pad and I love it!

Yeah, I don't use a mouse pad and my mouse works fine (Razer Krait).
