As the title says, I've been having video card troubles lately and im not quite sure how to go about fixing it.
Every few days or so i will be going about my business and suddenly the screen will lock up, either: A.) Making a stuttering sound and refusing to respond to anything short of restarting the computer. Or B.) goes to a blue screen with System_service_exception as the cause.
On top of the above listed problem, i will sometimes open a game (l4d2, for instance) and regardless of the settings i have made it will begin a process of easily noticable stuttering in which both the screen and sound stutter. Sometimes it will stop but most of the time it will continue to do so until finally simply going to the blue screen with the same error as above.
I had tried googling it, and came up with the possibility that it may have to do with graphics or motherboard drivers. I checked nvidia.com and found that i had the latest drivers and I updated the chipset drivers hoping that it somehow might be related to the problem - no luck.
I have a 9800 GTX + and i run in Windows Vista 64-Bit, can anyone help me with this problem? What do i need to do to fix it? Could the card possibly be overheating (since it only seems to do it every few days aside from when playing certain games)
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Thought i should specify one of the above problems. When i say it stutters in l4d2 i mean every couple of minutes it stutters for anywhere from 2-6 seconds and then continues with whats going on in game until either the stuttering stops or i get a blue screen
