The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us have to be some of the best single player games I've played, Telltale do such an amazing job on it. I can't wait till this is released.
So, any opinions on whether I'm better off waiting for all the episodes to come out before playing the game, or start playing now even though there could be a long gap between the fourth and the final episode?

You lower the chances of being spoiled, and the wait in between chapters really does add impact to the story. I couldn't imagine having to wait in between episodes 4 and 5 of season one, that cliffhanger was unreal. But I played it well after the fact, so I just jumped directly into episode 5 without letting it sink in.

Hopefully it's better than episode 3.
I forgot S2 was a thing. I'll have to play the rest at some point.
Hopefully it's better than episode 3.
I thought episode 3 was kinda good
let's hope that it's not as rushed as TWAU ep5.
and valve says episodic content isn't reliable
and valve says episodic content isn't reliable
Considering the scale of these games and the fact that they still have trouble getting them out on time, I'd say Valve have a point.
and valve says episodic content isn't reliable
Valve's Management structure didn't apply to their methods of working. Valve-Time, extending testing of features and so on just didn't work out for the HL episodes. I also think there is a little bit more work to do when doing episodic first person shooter experiences and adventure games. Playtime is also a factor. While Telltales episodes last around 1-2 hours, Valve's HL episodes went on for 5-6 hours.

I can't speak for the longer episode gaps (although I'll guess it's from writing scripts to accommodate for all the choices), but the shorter play lengths for their newer episodes are a deliberate choice from Telltale. They say they want their newer episodes to be "one sitting entertainment."

Walking Dead season 1 was like the traditional adventure game's last gasp before the puzzle solving was completely replaced by dialogue and choices. RIP.
