Last night I turned of my computer (desktop). I felt like we already use enough power as is so I flip off the power strip that it's hooked up to. That strip is then plugged into a ups (we've got a lot of shit in that room).
This morning I got out of the shower and wanted to check something, so I went into the room, flipped on the strip's switch, and pressed the power button. Nothing happened.
Immediately I checked for power to my mobo, which was an obvious no. I unplugged and plugged the power cord into multiple places, none of which worked (although everything else in the room has power).
Here comes the part that I know is stupid but I found the source. I was making sure that the cord was securely attached to the psu. One time I wiggled it in the spot while pushing in. A small spark appeared in the psu (FUCK) and the lights on the mobo lit up for about 2 seconds.
So what reliable psu would you suggest? I had an OCZ ModXStream Pro Power supply - 600 Watt.

It's possible you fried your motherboard in the process as well.
God dammit :/

The part has a 3 year limited guarantee could I return it to newegg?
In the future, just do sleep mode. You'll use less power than a lightbulb that way.

Thanks, I'll do that. I did it mainly so I could shut off that whole side of the room (we've got two breakers set up for the room because there's so much crap plugged in).
Any ideas why it would go from perfectly functioning happy computer to broke ass???

Shutting a computer down if its not being used is the most logical option, he just had bad luck. You wouldn't keep a car running just because last time you turned it off it wouldn't start again.

Unless you have a remote starter and used that to start it and left it and the keys behind then drove off.
Didn't your PSU have a switch on it? If it does then you should have turned that off before messing with the cable.

It's a lot cheaper to just replace the PSU first as it's the known issue at the moment. He'll know soon enough if his mobo is bad.

I did. I did that on purpose to see if there was anything at all going on.

.
What should I do contact newegg or the manufacturer for a replacement???
No way I want to have to pay about $300 for a problem I didn't cause
[editline]09:16PM[/editline]
clearing it with parents to call manufacturer (I paid for it w/ my own money and everything but you know how it goes)
