Got a new motherboard recently, been a while since i upgraded my pc ... so i got myself a new motherboard , graphics card and some RAM. Came across some red USB ports on my new motherboard, anyone care to explain what these are? 1.0? 2.0? 3.0? or other? lol Thanks in advance!
firewire or e-sata probably they maybe 3.0 if it is a brand spankin new mobo but probably firewire/esata
what MoBo is it
I've got a couple of red USB's too. I don't think they're actually special.
I can't find any reference on google. Might be USB 3.0, but I'll bet it's just a regular USB port coloured red.
Same here, P6T Deluxe V2
its an ASUS M4A785D-M PRO, i needed the PCI -E 2.0 for my new graphics card you see :P its hard picking up on all this new stuff when it comes to upgrading, as theyre constantly getting better and better (The MoBo is'nt anything special, only 62 pounds, bargain! does the job though!)
That is what they look like. [editline]06:08PM[/editline] The top two that is, the bottom is e-sata and the one above that firewire.

It's just a regular USB 2.0 port.
My dad's computer has a red USB port, it is a "Hi-Speed" port, apparently gives higher speeds for the USB device. I don't really notice a difference on it, though I do have a DVD+/-RW drive on the port at the moment.
Haha Thanks for the info anyway people!
i needed the PCI -E 2.0 for my new graphics card you see :P
No you didn't, I don't think even the Fermi cards/ATi's latest max out PCI-E 1.1's bandwidth. All cards are backwards compatible. Correct me if I'm wrong
I got the ATI 9770, and that card needs PCI - E 2.0
I got the ATI 9770, and that card needs PCI - E 2.0
So how is the future treating you?
I got the ATI 9770, and that card needs PCI - E 2.0
What.
It's obviously NOT a typo derp
I got the ATI 9770, and that card needs PCI - E 2.0
no card "needs" 2.0 hell I saw a test between 16x and 8x(which is effectively 16x 1.0) and the performance difference was 2% for the forseeable future all you need to change a MoBo for is because your current one broke, you need a new feature (USB 3.0 comes to mind) or you're getting an incompatible CPU
Speaking of USB 3 I'm getting a second 5850, and my Motherboard supports USB 3 ONLY if one PCIe port is being used, if both are in use it turns them into USB 2's. Could I just buy a USB 3 hub to get around that? It also Does the same with SATA 6 to SATA 3.

If you put red on it it goes faster. How do you people not know that.
I got the ATI 9770, and that card needs PCI - E 2.0
That card must be blazing fast, I still remember my Radeon 9250 it gave Fermi a run for it's money yessiree
So how is the future treating you?
Rofl. I dont think that's a typo either :P
Rofl. I dont think that's a typo either :P
It clearly wasn't a typo. :smug:
Ive seen a few USB 3.0 ports being Blue. But Ive never seen a red one. Someone just put it there for the fun.
Actually they might have a separate controller rather than using a hub, I could be very wrong though.
Ive seen a few USB 3.0 ports being Blue. But Ive never seen a red one. Someone just put it there for the fun.
I think they're making it a standard to have 3.0 ports being blue, to help them stand apart from the 2.0 and below.
IIRC they're seperate ports for devices that require lots of power. For example, you could have your mouse, keyboard, etc hooked into the normal ones, and a portable hard drive in the red one, so that the others don't stop working.
