here i'll sum the article up for you: he cant play games on his own so uses ai/others to help him, aka get gud noob.
I like having NPC groups under my control, not because I'm a filthy casual though. I do it because it makes me a cool leader who uses his command to win battles.

Who hires these writers
Forgive me for how casual I sound, but I still wish I could have NPCs do tedious tasks in Minecraft, like mining mostly.
The modern gaming journalist actually doesn't play games, they just write how they should be made according to some magical shifting political standard.
Small wonder streaming plays are replacing them as a reviewing tool.

Just get one of the million tech mods that are all the same as eachother, nearly all of them have some component that mines shit for you.

That's not casual at all. That's just not wanting to waste your time.

automating tedious tasks isn't really any more casual, the poking fun is more about trying to remove the hard tasks because people are laughing at you on forums when you can't beat a game v:v:v
While automation of tedious tasks is one thing, I personally utterly despise AI controlled companions in games. Don't think I've ever experienced one that was dumb as shit and it's a huge detractor from any game for me.

Simplest ones are the best IMO. The skeleton summons for the necromancer in diablo 2 never fucked my day up v:v:v

I liked doing this in EYE. I'd use my psychic abilities to project armed clones of me to protect me or go kill while I hid in a corner and hacked enemies around me so I could have an even bigger army and deal with less enemies
I never really enjoyed permanent NPCs, they were always pretty useless and I didn't like having to take care of them.
One of my favourite Skyrim runs was an Illusion and Conjuration only mage. Make two bandits fight each other, then resurrect the loser. All from the comfort of your hidden corner.
Ashley in RE4 was a great companion. Half of that game was an escort mission, but you barely noticed because she always got the fuck down when you held up your gun.
I hate NPC followers in most games. They're either overpowered or die all the time. Also they get in the way of gunfire and block doorways and ruin stealth.
I do have Inigo as a follower on my current Skyrim game, though I play stealth and he rarely gets to do anything outside of bossfights. He just carries all the magical items and other junk from dungeons to shopkeepers. Only real use for NPC followers.

I do it because some games feel really empty once they leave. :v:
We need a game where you have an NPC follower for most of thats actually intelligent. Bioshock Infinite was a good start to that but still needs a lot of work imo.

Sheva was a better companion than people give her credit for. If you give her a rifle she's a headshot machine. Though the fact that she can pick things up is fucking stupid.
"Stop picking up the mines I put down, Sheva."
Pawns in Dragons Dogma were pretty cool and mostly pretty intelligent, they could even learn tricks like holding enemies for you to attack, or catching you if you fall off a flying enemy.

DD has the best companions hands down.
