I don't know your personal tastes. But I like it. It's free so give it a shot. It's the moments that come up that you don't plan that make it fun.
I was travelling along, and came across a small group using a huge team thumper. I figured I would help and get few minerals out of it as well. I never protected a thumper that big before. All of a sudden when the thumper was halfway complete. Drop ships of the main enemy alien race(can't think of their name at the moment) came in and started attacking it as well. They were using shields, heavy units, and fast melee units. We ended up protecting it until the end. For me it was the best, most action packed moment of the game. We all bid farewell to each other and went on our ways.

You mean the chosen? Yeah thumping is pretty fun if you want to defend against huge waves of enemies and get some fast exp and loot. When you thump too close to melding or areas near chosen they sometimes launch huge attack wave with drop pods and they can really easily overwhelm your group. I almost lost my thumper twice when I was fighting some basic aliens with few friends and suddenly at least 10 drop pods and hundreds of chosen come around. Some of the chosen even started capturing the base near by so I had to shout help from global chat and have like 10 other players come and clean the shit up, it was probably largest pve fight I have seen in MMoS so far it was just amazing. The game really has it moments and the events are really fun with huge group of players blowing up aliens.
Crafting, basic missions and walking get boring really fast. Its pretty much up to you how much you want to grind, you can level up by just running the events you find around the map but doing missions to certain bases give you vouchers for better items. Crafting and researching takes a lot time and resources but are pretty useful later in the game. Netcode, interface and engine has its problems from time to time but relogging or /reloadui fixes most problems.
You can buy boosters, vehicles and cosmetics with real money but most of the stuff is obtainable by playing so you don't miss that much if play for free. I totally recommend giving it a try.
