Asking for a bit of help looking for a good desktop. Price has to be around $500, absolute budget is $580 (this is all US Dollars), and it will be fore 3D modelling, and some games, the most graphically intense being Just Cause 2. Any help is greatly appreciated. [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] I don't need an audio system, OS, monitor, keyboard, or mouse. [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] Also, if worst comes to worst, I can salvage the memory from my old desktop. [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] And the hard drive.
No peripherals at all? [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] Hard Drive Power Supply RAM Motherboard GPU I don't know much about CPUs, so I didn't include one. Someone else will have to suggest that as I wouldn't want to recommend you a shitty one. Without a CPU this comes to $364.95, giving you $135.05 to work with for a CPU, which is probably not enough. If you can really spend that extra $80, I'd say you can get yourself a quality CPU. Keep in mind this is before tax for your region and shipping. [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] Fuck, I forgot a case. Sorry. I'd recommend one but I bought my case and it broke within a year. Sorry about being so half-assed, but I hope I gave you SOMEthing to work with.

It's $406 total, without GPU, so that leaves $100-180 for a GPU going with your budget. I'd say go for a GeForce 460, which is around..$160-180? If you need to bring the price down a bit more, you can go for a Radeon 5770 or 5750 which run closer to $110-$140 ish. [editline]1st January 2011[/editline]
..case..broke
How the fuck do you break a case after a year, it should be mostly stable after initial build.
It was just a shitty case and I moved that year. The thing couldn't handle a few bumps in the van. :P [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] EEvilMuffin, if you're going to go with a build probably do his. He seems to know more than I do about this.
I just put a good amount of research into getting fucking awesome stuff for a really good price, since I was going to buy a new PC (bought it about 2 hours ago actually.) I lucked out too, getting REALLY good deals on shipping. I almost got a $55 Cooler Master case, but it was $20 to ship. This case was slightly better, for only $5 more with free shipping =). I wanted to avoid BOTTOM range stuff ($60 CPU, $30 RAM, $40-60 MOBO, etc) and at least get something decent for myself, but I really need to buy 4 new tires soon so I couldn't spend much over $400 at all. I'm totally satisfied with what I just purchased!
This is what I came up with. $515, or $475 w/ rebates Links: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151192 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130249R http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161338 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.582146 Or on the contrary, you can get this, $555, or $515 w/ rebates
well how about this: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=13081491 I'm salvaging the 1.5T HDD from my old one, and the 2 gb of RAM
wish list is empty
Okay than: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146070 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130290 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150396 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118031 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817709021 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103675
I don't like the PSU, but the rest of the build seems fine the 4650 is lacking, but since you're not planning on playing much games on it, it shouldn't be a problem
Well what would be a better card for around the same price?
Sorry if I wasn't clear - I was just trying to say that a 4650 will struggle to run Just Cause 2, not that there's a better card for the price wait actually there is something better for the price this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150450&cm_re=4670-_-14-150-450-_-Product [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] also if you have ddr2 RAM then your mobo won't support it [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] Also I personally think that this is better value for your money If you need DDR3 RAM get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231396
