Does anyone know any good converters that can convert MKV to other common containers such as AVI, WMV, and/or MP4?
I am looking for a program where you can hardsub the subtitles, make sure the audio is correctly synced, and can define custom resolution if possible.
I have tried AllToAVI, but the audio often gets de-synced.
Thanks

Does it matter?
FYI, only few devices supports MKV playback, and even if they do support it, only few can output subtitles
I use mkv2vob to play. mkv files on my PS3.
Okay I have two that should do it

FormatFactory should do the trick.

Just be sure to only mess with settings you know what they do, as even a small change can cause the output to be horrid. I learned that the hard way.
You could always try using codecs? I got a pack for my Windows Media Player/Media Center so it can play all types of video/sound files.
This is a pretty bad solution, but it works for all video files so it could be useful for future stuff. Well when i'm saying all video files i mean you need to have a player that plays the video too, but, you can just record the video with FRAPS, then compress it after to whatever file format you want.
I had this exact issue and every converter I tried took HOURS to convert. Use MKV2VOB, it will convert an MKV file to mpg (divx, xvid, whatever) or even to a dvd playable format in about 30 minutes. I swear by this program.

That idea works, but is the most redundant way to convert it.
I would only use it if it is my last resort, considering the insane amount of time it will take

In the mean time, i'm going to try some of the programs that you guy have suggested, thanks

Yes it does.

MKV files are fucking massive compared to avi, some HD shows take up half a GB each for me.

but mkv files play on the ps3 already, ps3 slim anyways.

If you want to retain original quality and resolution, the AVI file is going to be larger.
Or get a new HDD. I can get 1.5 TB for 100 (external) euro's these days.
But let's say if I'd like to watch some HD show that is in .mkv on my 360, it does not support mkv, but I still want to watch it in HD on my 360, how am I suppose to do that?
Super sucks compared to MediaCoder.

Sorry, but my 40GB PS3 PHAT won't play the mkv files, it says they are corrupted data.
