• Is a budget gaming PC for ~$300 (w/o GPU) possible?

My brother wants a computer and I have a plan, but I am not sure if it is physically possible. For it to be cost-efficient, the base PC (without a GPU) would need to be about ~$300 at most. The plan is to get the budget PC, a new GPU for myself (was thinking a GTX 770), split the total price, and he would get my current GTX 560 TI hopefully without it being bottlenecked too much. Is this a realistic estimate? He's not a high performance gamer and mostly plays Source mods or shit like Wolf Among Us/. The budget PC would have to be compatible with the 560 TI, obviously. I'm not sure where to start. I'd really like to get it from NCIX but I have ordered from Newegg.ca as well. An OS probably isn't necessary, the cheaper the better. [editline]1st July 2014[/editline] I don't think a keyboard/mouse/monitor needs to be included, we can find cheap ones here [editline]1st July 2014[/editline] This is about as cheap as I can get it, I have no idea if it's all compatible or if I can get some cheaper parts. Alternatively I could get something cheaper than a 770, but something that's a worthwhile upgrade from a 560 ti. [editline]1st July 2014[/editline] Maybe a 760 instead
Alright my brother's birthday is coming up later this month and my sisters suggested chipping in for it as a birthday present, so the ridiculous $300 cap has been lifted a little higher. I am thinking this: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/drdean/saved/#savedbuild_1234542
If you can push it any higher at all, I would seriously recommend that you get 8GB of memory instead of 4GB. If not, start saving up for an extra 4GB kit to install at a later date when you can afford it.
The 4 gig one I picked was $80 and I fucking found an 8 gig one for $80 on another site in one of the other threads here. Geez. I agree, 8 gigs is important. I'm thinking of downgrading it a bit but I'm not very good with scaling hardware against eachother. My brother has a PS4 so I think he's going to use that for all the high performance games, so really he just needs a regular computer but with a 560 TI stuffed in it. What's the lower-end I can go in terms of computer parts while still having compatibility with the 560 TI without bottlenecking to shit? (probably too late for that anyways with that dual core pentium)
I'm still slightly confused on your budget, but with the increase, would this work? Gonna take a shot in the dark and assume your brother doesn't know how to/is not interested in overclocking, especially if he intends to use his PS4 more than this PC for gaming. However, I took the liberty of making this build powerful enough (and as close as I could stay within your boosted budget of what I'm assuming is now $700 CAD with the help of your sisters) so that if he does decide to make the switch in the future, all he'd really have to do is buy a newer graphics card and he should be able to play the latest and greatest games at 1080p, ultra settings, and all the nice fixings at a stable framerate. In its current state, it is still strong enough to play most games at 1080p and medium-high settings with your old 560 Ti, although he may struggle a little with more recent games such as Battlefield 4 or Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I left a 560 Ti in there but marked it as purchased so that the list would still display the total wattage, but wouldn't affect the total price in any way.
