What should I use it for, can you give me some ideas?

You could use it as a NAS. If you have multiple workstations in your home, it's worth having all your data accessible from every workstation.

Why the hell would you keep an entire computer powered to make it a NAS? Just buy a cheap external hd enclosure with an ethernet port and hook it up to your router.
