Im thinking about upgrading my 32 bit vista to 64 bit windows 7. I was wondering if I just have to buy the $120 dollar upgrade or do I have to buy the $200 dollar one? second question, I know that it will be a fresh install and will delete all the stuff on my computer, but will it only delete all the things on the hard drive that windows is installed on or will it wipe all of the hard drives?
There a $120 upgrade? Why not just buy the OS from newegg for $100 then? Hmm, thats what the windows 7 upgrade adviser said since I would be moving from 32 bit to 64 bit, that it would have to be a complete install. Ill deffinatly get the $100 dollar one, rather than the $120 one at best buy.
If you already have the disc, look under it. There should be a 64 bit disc.
I haven't bought windows 7 yet, I wanted to see what would be happening when upgrading from 32 bit to 64 bit, and I know that when you buy windows it comes with both 32 and 64 bit.
Well, I'm not sure. If you did an UPGRADE with the upgrade disc, you'd probably have problems because of how upgrading works, but using a standard windows 7 x64 should work just fine installing over it, but I don't have experience upgrading windows from 32 to 64 - I always install 64 bit.
Well im most likely going to use the one you posted, if it deletes everything im just going to put everything i dont feel like redownloading on a external harddrive.
but I don't have experience upgrading windows from 32 to 64 - I always install 64 bit.
afaik it doesn't let you. You can only go 32bit to 32bit or 64bit to 64 bit. I may be wrong, though. This.
So I should back up everything I dont want to reinstall or will lose?

I have two harddrives on my computer one has all my games and importent stuff on it, can I just unplug that from the motherboard and install 64 bit windows and than just re plug it in?
Yes, but when you're installing windows you can choose where to do it and what drive to format and partition and such.
so I can just tell it to only install on my C: drive and not on my F: drive?
Yep. Just to make sure you don't choose the wrong one you can just unplug the SATA from it just to be safe if you wanted.
Ok, thanks for all the help, I should be getting windows 7 this weekend and I just cant wait.
