So Christmas has passed and I got a FX 4100 and ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional MB from my parents. I have a case, dvd/cd drive, mouse, and keyboard. The case is a Dell XPS case from my uncle and it ain't to shabby so I'll keep it. It currently holds a 450 Watt PSU (from what he told me) so I'll use that too, for now. I am planning to by WIN 7 OEM for $100, Wireless NIC for $30, possibly a BluRay to replace the dvd/cd for $60, and a monitor for $170 leaving only bout $350 for the other stuff. MB : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157267&Tpk=asrock%20990fx%20fatal1ty%20professional CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103996 I realize that if I want all theses things I'll need a better PSU so I'll look into it once I get suggestions on the rest of this stuff and I see how much room I have left in the budget and what I need. So the the question is then: 1 - what RAM do I get (1600/1866/2000) for round $40-60 and 4 or 8 GB for now (whatever fits the budget) 2 - what HDD can I get that is no more than $100 (320 GB or more) 3 - what would be the best 6850/6870 to chose from Last note: I will upgrade in the future when need be so cutting a little performance now is okay] Lets get this show rolling...
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233186 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 (Stretching it a bit, but it's a really good HDD, at least I've heard.) And go for the 6850, I'm sure it'll do for what you want (my friends that have them are pretty happy with them). As for power supplies, anything by Corsair, OCZ or Antec should do you well, and you'll probably want more than 500W. Also why are you going with the FX-4100, they don't deliver very good performance at all, especially when you could get a far outperforming i3 bundle for cheaper.

Also jug is there any good sata III's out there? I really don;t need 1 TB yet so you can cut it down to 750 or 500 GBs if that's possible [editline]27th December 2011[/editline]
Oh I see, sorry, I didn't mean to annoy or offend or anything. The thing weighs like 40 pounds, its like double layered steel and its full tower. my cousin has another one and i have to say the XPS cases are pretty good for what dell gives you

How about this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769 I have no idea if it's any good, but from what I hear WD are a respectable brand and the reviews look promising. Well, most of them at least. [editline]27th December 2011[/editline] Also seen as your mobo has many PCI-E slots, and two at x16, is it safe to say you're planning on Xfire or SLI in the future? If so, you might want to get a beefier PSU in preparation.
Hahaha that is the one I've been looking at since i started looking for them and i have had pretty good experience with WD. The make pretty standard stuff. It isn't amazing but again it isn't horrible. Good for replacements

If not, we'll just knock it down a notch to something like this. PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341048 Except the 650w and the 550w are for a limited time the same price. Fabulous. Also the GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161384 (or similar)
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm wondering can I bump down to the 600W and go for the modular ability? Or bump up to 700W for a few extra bucks to get the same ability? And one more thing what would you recommend in the 1866 range for ram for me to compare to? To answer your question about my PCI-E's, Yes i m gonna try crossfire by buying another card for my birthday later this coming year and i do realize that ill need a better PSU which is why i asked bout it. What wattage would I need for that?
Can do! Modular 700W PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018&Tpk=700w%20modular%20ocz As for 1866 range RAM, I don't have a clue, I usually just suggest 1333MHz Corsair RAM at 4-8GB. Alright then thanks for all the help man. Ill be lookin into that PSU then since its only 90 and i get all i need from it. I am thinking of just going with 2x4 gb 1866 snipers when they restock but thanks again for all your help.
There isn't much benefit for 1866MHz RAM, if the 1600MHz or even 1333MHz is a fair bit cheaper, you may as well go with that. However, I'm glad I helped.
