I'v been looking around for a good DSLR camera for a while but have not managed to find a good model thats also quite cheap, I would class myself as a complete amuture but would like to start takeing some more profesional photos. Anyway I will be intrested to see what people think
simple Nikod D40 or canon eos 350D will do. You get pretty pictures on those while not paying too much for them. Any introduction model would work really. They are all great camera's compared to non DSLR.
Keep in mind that getting a better camera won't automatically make you a better photographer. A bad photo is a bad photo whether it's taken on a compact or an slr.
Keep in mind that amateur does not mean bad per se.
also true, but what he said is true. if you're getting a camera "to help you take better photos" then you're getting it for the wrong reasons. that said, an SLR is a good place to start as it teaches you about exposure, film speeds, depth of field and all sorts of things like that, which is what you need to have an understanding of to be a good photographer. i got a canon 400D back in... 2007, i think, and it's done me well. the kit lens it came with isn't great (and i still haven't upgraded) but one of the more recent ones (500D or 1000D) has a good kit lens. to be honest the argument between canon and nikon doesn't come down to much hard fact, it's just personal preference. maybe go to an independent camera shop and have a talk to one of the guys there to see what they have to say? just try to find someone who actually knows what they're talking about instead of just trying to sell you the most expensive model for your budget.
Truth to be told, a DSLR is also a nice point and shoot camera. But too expensive to use it like that.
