Here's a better idea Facebook: Please just merge the Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps. It's just so pointless that they are separate, especially when you're forced to use the latter to message other people.

they were once together, then they separated them for no reason at all. then most people I know just used facebook inside the chrome browser, but then they fucking disabled the chat there too even though it works perfectly fine? and every time you tap on the chat icon it tries to load the store page of the chat app.

TBH one of the useful features I can see people having which I found out when deactivating my account is you can still have the Messenger option enabled. I assume that if one service is down you can still contact your mates and whatnot, or if like me you disabled the timeline part of it.
Still, two apps on your phone is cumbersome.
It sucks having two apps if you have a facebook account but like El_Jameo said, people with deactivated accounts can still message you. This is useful if you don't want a profile but still want to talk to people.

I only have the messenger app, the facebook feed is trash so if I could connect my keyboard to my phone or use a similar website on my computer with just the chat I'd be set.

Both the Facebook and Messenger apps are incredible over-engineered. People pulling apart the APKs find thousands upon thousands of compiled Java classes. Along with all the assets needed for things such as stickers (because redownloading them when they are used wouldn't be a smooth experience tbh).

messenger.com is probably what you want then. I'm surprised more people don't know about it.
(there's a weird bug to log in, because it covers the entire page with a div that goes somewhere else. You can just inspect and delete it, then click login)

You can use it in chrome if you request the desktop version of the page. I vowed to never download messenger after the unnecessary and stupid app split, so I use this when I'm expecting a message that I'll need to reply to ASAP.
I only have messenger installed at the minute and it's a godsend.
