Soft hacking a wii

I was looking into it and i was wondering if you can still use the internet on your Wii if you soft hack it with homebrew or soething of the sort.

Yes, but you can't have Connect24 on ever due it to updating your Wii automatically (Which would stop homebrew and such running)

Alright. But lets say I accidentally let it update right? What happens to my Wii? Will it brick and be useless, or will it just run like normal?
