This game was the reason I transitioned from consoles to PC, shame to see it go but it's been almost deserted for a long time now.
My dad brought he this about 6 or 7 years ago without realizing there was a monthly fee, never got to play it :(
Tried to get into it after years of inactivity.
Veteran gifts everywhere!
Nevertheless it is one of my favorite MMOs. Or was :saddowns:
And nothing of value was lost.
The EMU has more players anyway, and is better in every way.
SWG Pre-CU was amazing! and still to date had one of the most mature communities in an MMO i've ever experienced i loved the fact you could literally create your own cities from the ground up and the Bounty Hunter Terminals were a hell of a lot of fun!
I've never played it, but the fact that it actually took EFFORT to become a Jedi seemed like a pretty good idea... and then I heard that they got rid of that and made becoming a Jedi ridiculously easy. Hmm. Oh well...
the game used to be cool as hell

esp interior decorating, which is what i spent most of my in-game time doing
I've never heard of this game, but I guess it's sad to see it go.
used to lag like a motherfucker on my old PC but that shit was fun as hell
I remember hugging a darth vader NPC and getting my ass beat
I got confused for a second and thought that Bioware MMO was getting scrapped.
Never really got into it but sad to see it go, and happy it lasted as long as it did for the fans.
Best MMO I ever played, got me into MMOs.
It should have just shut down after the combat update and NGE in 2006, though. Like 90% of the playerbase left then anyway.
like everyone says, this was amazing before the combat update. One example of listening to what the community says and doing the complete opposite just to be dicks.
Goodnight, sweet prince. It's good to finally see the post-CU/NGE abomination of what was originally Star Wars: Galaxies being put down. It's for the best, and honestly, more motivation for the SWGEmu team to get cracking
Thank god. They turned this game into a fucking mess after that game-breaking update that they dubbed as an "enhancement". Fuck you Sony, if you hadn't screwed up this wouldn't be happening and you'd have the second most popular MMO on the market.
What went on with the update? How did it ruin it?
(I've never played this.)
Althought the SWG is closing, the emu will still live on.

Don't know much about pre-CU, but NGE is what really annoyed people. Basically before NGE you had a starter class and you could combine it with other starter classes to get to more advanced ones (EG: Medic + Marksman -> Combat Medic), and you had to invest a huge amount of time to begin the missions to become a jedi, and then after NGE it simplified everything into 9 classes, one of which was jedi. It also got rid of cool stuff like creature handling, so you couldn't get any more rancor pets, although they eventually brought back a talent tree for all classes similiar to bio-engineering.
Pre-cu SWG will always have a place in my heart. Will have to load up the emu sometime.
They should make it free to play.
I wanted to play it, but I didn't want to pay a monthly fee.
Plus a lot of MMO's are doing it now.
I remember seeing the commercial for this when I was young and wanting it so badly
When I first got this game I couldn't get into it, when I finally did get into it the NGE came out a month later.
Only thing I did after NGE/CU was Space stuff, I loved the space combat.
Wouldn't make sense to have two Star Wars MMOs at the same time!
This game should have been taken out back and shot back when those shitty updates came out but instead they put it on life support and are finally pulling the plug.

Two wrongs don't make a right.
Oh man, I got really into this game a couple years ago, I never experienced the Pre-CU stuff, but I actually enjoyed the post game even if there wasnt really many playing. I had an absolute blast playing SWG and now I can't stop the nostalgia from making me a bit sad. There will never be another game with as much customizability (of vehicles, clothing, crafting, and especially housing/city's) or as interesting and well done space combat for me I fear. Not to mention the fact that it was star wars! I fear TOR will be both dumbed down and too WoW for me.
Goodnight SWG.
EDIT:
For god's sake I had a freaking yacht with like 200 furniture pieces in it. How cool is that?
I didn't know it had player made cities, I feel left out now.

Eh, if I ever get the funding to complete my MMO I've been working on throughout college there will be another sandbox game like this.
Also if you never got to play before the NGE, just imagine it being 100x better. I'll be one of the very few to admit, the NGE isn't that bad when you look at it from a standalone perspective, when you compare it to the Pre-CU game or even the Combat Update, it's a fucking atrocity on the same level of smearing excrement on "The Scream" or the statue of David.
