• Trouble with reformatting.

I can't seem to reformat. I put my windows install disk into the drive, but when it loads I get a weird low-res desktop background and my cursor. Any suggestions?
Make sure you set the CD drive as the first boot device if it isn't already. Report back with the results.
Yeah, that was the first thing I did. And then what I described in the first post happened.
Make sure you're with the computer the whole time, and check to see if there are any options while it's booting up. I had something similar to this once, and it turned out I was missing a menu that was popping up for a brief time during boot.
I have been looking, believe me. After I turn it on, it prompts me to press any key to boot from the CD, and then it takes me to a screen with two options: Either quit and start from the HD, or access some Windows Settings deal. Of course I pick the settings, but that takes me to the weird desktop thing. Should I let it sit on that screen and wait?
That's odd. I'm not familiar with that screen. But I'd let it sit and just see what happens. Also, can't you just install from within Windows? You can still format the drive, IIRC, but you don't have to go through the whole rigmarole of that type setup. But what this is sounding like is not an actual installation CD, but some kind of recovery tool or upgrade or something.

Well it's what I used to install Vista... :zoid:
Click "Start Windows" then follow the instructions onscreen
Ah HA. Just letting it sit there for like ten minutes DID work! Thanks guys.
