I have to write one final story for my Creative Writing class - General

[B]I am putting this in Fast Threads because I want a simple, straight answer.[/B] I have to write a story for Creative Writing that must be a minimum of 2,000 words and perfectly illustrate one or more of these themes/genres: Religion & Spirituality Coming-of-age Absurdist fiction Love & romance Science fiction So far, I have narrowed it down to Religion & Spirituality and Absurdist fiction, and these are my ideas: [B]Religion & Spirituality -[/B] This is actually a sort of combination of Religion & Spirituality and coming-of-age. And absurdist, now that I think about it. Anyway, the story I have in mind is about this young boy, around 13, who runs away from home and unintentionally meets a religious zealot in a fairly large city and inadvertently becomes involved in his life affairs. The man, who identifies himself as Johnathon "Immanuel" Jameson (Usually shortened to Immanuel) is literally an insane fundamentalist who takes [B]every word in the Bible[/B] word for word. And I do mean everything. For instance, Jesus (hyperbolically) commands that a Christian remove his own eye if it leads him to sin. So, Immanuel has plucked out his own eye because he lusted after a woman with it. As another example, the story starts with Immanuel secretly following an adulterous man around town for two weeks straight and, after seeing him with three separate women, confronts him and, after a series of comedic events, stones him to death with a block of cement (so, he stones an adulterer). The story would end with the boy getting freaked out and going home. This story, however, is more a satire of religious extremism than religion itself, which I like. Immanuel is a sort of cross between Ignatius J. Reilly and Fred Phelps, minus Fred Phelps' insane congregation. I've already written the first draft, and I like it a lot. [B]Absurdist fiction -[/B] This story is one that I have neither written nor thought through, but I like the idea [B]a lot more[/B] than the one for Religion & Spirituality. Basically, the story follows one man, a middle-class worker in New York City, who is convinced that the government is watching his every move. He basically retraces every key moment of his life, and even some minor ones, to prove that he has no freedom of privacy. He goes Washington, D.C. to visit the FBI, CIA, and NSA headquarters and demand information, but they promptly throw him out after he gives his allegations. He is extremely delusional and wary of every government official he comes across, and oftentimes attacks and viciously screams at them. So far, I think the ending might be his moving to Europe (he's skeptic of Canada, too), but I haven't decided yet. I have a few endings in mind. I think this story sounds pretty interesting and seems like a lot of fun to write, but it also seems fairly difficult, and I have procrastinated on this assignment. But then again, a challenge is always good! :D -- So, those are my ideas. I have also written something for the coming-of-age story, technically, but I actually wrote it months ago and it's way too similar to [I]Catcher in the Rye[/I], so I don't think so. The ending you proposed to the Religion and Spirituality one was kinda boring but I thought the rest of what you said would work well.
