I just got a new PC but when I went to connect my monitor to the GFX card there was no VGA port; just a DVI and an S video. Short of buying a HD monitor, will a DVI to VGA adaptor suffice?

Ok thanks for the replies guys so I went out and bought one ([url]http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97442[/url]), plugged into the graphics card and I've got no picture. Ideas?
Tried updated drivers?
