• Best VoIP program

My friend and I were having a discussion and we couldn't come to a conclusion to which VoIP software was the best. He seemed to have a massive grudge against Ventrilo and he was saying that it was because of the delay when you push to talk. He said Mumble was the best but on the other hand claimed Ventrilo was the shittest software. Which would you say is the best and is there much wrong with Ventrilo or is my friend massively exaggerating.
Ventrilo and teamspeak are probably the most common but I'd agree that mumble is the best. The set up is much better and it has options to avoid background noise being played through the mic and such.
Mumble.
Skype
Mumble. Ventrilo is ok, but their licensing is shit, don't know about Teamspeak, Skype has too much latency.
Mumble is the best I've used.
Voice calls using Windows Live Messenger.
Voice calls using Windows Live Messenger.
you are so droll
Has anyone tested out the new Steam voice chat? I hear it uses the same protocol as Skype.
Has anyone tested out the new Steam voice chat? I hear it uses the same protocol as Skype.
it's great much improved actually
Been using mumble a bit, I like it. It has a native Linux client too, so thats really nice. Open source and everything.
Has anyone tested out the new Steam voice chat? I hear it uses the same protocol as Skype.
It's fucking great
I like ventrilo the best because I've been using it for a very long time, but I know it's not the best option out there.
Skype
The Linux client has zero functionality, the Windows client doesn't recognize calls a lot of the time. Totally the best :downs:
Vent is only good when you don't have semi illiterate kids who don't know how to how to use an equaliser. I do like being able to set equalisers for each user because of that.
The Linux client has zero functionality, the Windows client doesn't recognize calls a lot of the time. Totally the best :downs:
Never had any problems on windows. Neither have my friends. So I dunno... Doesn't recognize calls? What is that even supposed to mean? Does it mistake call for a message or what?
Google Voice FTW.

File transfers, text, everything works fine except calls.
I have to say after the steam update, it is by far the best VOIP program since its also ingame, thats right no alt tab to change settings for you
mumble - it works on windows mac and luinx and is OS so yeah
mumble - it works on windows mac and luinx and is OS so yeah
and is Operating System? :colbert:
Skype is my personal favorite; I've experience no latency, no dropped calls, and you can transfer files using it (which can be handy for small things not worth uploading). Steam voice chat has always given me problems. It rarely ever recognizes that my microphone is plugged in and lacks many of the features Skype has. Teamspeak is decent too, I just don't use it that often.
I use Skype because I do an occasional prank call.
and is Operating System? :colbert:
Open source. Although it's usually abreviated as OSS which is Open Source Software.
