• Issues After Installing new Graphics Card

I recently upgraded my graphics card and since then I've been having issues, which I so far can only assume has to do with the awful cooling. Randomly when playing games it'll suddenly freeze, loop a stuttering sound and displays this on both my monitors: http://cdn.solidfiles.net/i/oebC.jpg After rebooting the GPU fan goes into berserk mode, sounding like a jet engine for ~10 seconds. I know that the fans usually go up to full speed for a second when booting, but 10 seconds can't be normal can it? It also did the jet engine thing this morning when I started it, it had been off all night. I checked temperatures when playing, unfortunately it never froze on me while doing this. The temps were usually around 60°(Celsius)for the CPU and 60-70° for the GPU, which is normal if I'm not mistaken. Computer details: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz PSU: Corsair TX 650W PSU RAM: Corsair TWIN2X PC6400C4DHX DDR2 4GB GPU: XFX Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5 And what's currently blowing air in my computer: CPU fan, GPU fan, PSU fan and the only fan blowing air out: The one chassis fan. Now my questions are: Is it overheating that's causing this? If so, what would be the best, cheapest solution? I was thinking two new chassis fans. (Low on money at the moment, gotta wait for the next pay check if the solution is to be expensive)
The cooler on the 5870 actually does a fine job, your GPU is well within the maximum limits (90-110 is when you should start getting worried). Your CPU, however, is pretty high. I'd recommend getting a cheap aftermarket cooler for it, like a CM Hyper 212 or something similar price. CPUs shouldn't really go above 55C at load, unless its LINPACK or overclocked. Have you made sure your drivers are installed properly, removed the old drivers? Have you tried running with just one monitor?
Nothing is overclocked and I made sure the old drivers were properly removed before installing the new GPU, and nope haven't tried one monitor. Problem is recreating the issue, no matter how demanding games I play are, or how hot it is in my room I can't seem to replicate the problem. It only happens whenever I'm actually enjoying the game and not paying attention to temperature readings. I had been playing without problems for around two weeks before it happened again, so testing can be tedious.
You could try checking your motherboard and PSU for leaky capacitors, thats one of the few things I can think of besides overheating that would cause intermittant problems like this.
Your card probably is just a dud.
You could try checking your motherboard and PSU for leaky capacitors, thats one of the few things I can think of besides overheating that would cause intermittant problems like this.
As far as I can tell everything seems intact.
Your card probably is just a dud.
As in broken? I suppose sending it back for repairs is an option, not very appealing though. [editline]06:19AM[/editline] When I'm in the main menu of Stalker Clear Sky my computer starts emitting a high pitched noise, I can't locate where it's coming from. This isn't anything new though, this was a "problem" I had before getting the new GPU.
If you have Catalyst 10.1, ATI just released a hotfix for the gray lines you showed in the picture. Get that and see if it helps. Also my CPU is 45 C idle and 55-60 load, no stutters there. I have an i5 750, which is pretty much comparable to a Q6600, so don't worry too much. There is a problem with the 5000 series too, so you might also just have a messed GPU.
