• Windows Vista gives me my desktop background when I restart
    13 replies, posted
I was reinstalling drivers from the last time this happened (I had to reinstall vista using the cd that came with it), and when I finished the last driver, I restarted and it came back to an empty desktop. There was no loading screen, and on the first time i restarted, it wouldn't play the song when the windows icon appears, but on the second try it played it. I have Windows Vista 64-bit SP1. I have only downloaded nvidia graphics drivers from their site, and realtek hd audio drivers from their site. Thanks.
Can someone please help? I lose space every time I reinstall. I really need a solution to this.
What?
Ok. I just installed updates for vista. After it finished I restarted, the loading screen came up and said confiduring windows. after that it came to my desktop background and nothing else, no toolbar, no icons. [editline]05:24PM[/editline] Can someone please help me out? I've tried system restore but that isn't working. Do I have to go into safe mode and delete explorer.exe?
Ok, heres some info. My comp only shows the desktop background after I restart my comp from the drtiver installation menu (ex: "Yes - I would like to restart my computer now" option). When I restart manually, it works. However, when I install windows updates, It'll do that now matter what I do, as long as its the 6th restart. I've tried many different patterns to get this thing working, but all of them seem to fail (ex: Install mobo drivers; install d-link NIC drivers; Install updates; Install realtek hd audio drivers; Failure. Install mobo drivers; Install Realtek HD audio drivers; Install nVidia geforce drivers; Install d-link NIC drivers; Install updates; Failure.) Those are only a few. I can't enter task manager when started normally. Everything works when I go into safe mode. Hopefully this helped you in helping me :P. Thanks!
Thanks I'll try that. No It didn't work. Thanks for trying though :D.
CTRL ALT DEL Go into processes Check for explorer.exe. If it's there, right click on it, and click end process. Ignore the warning popup and press ok. Now go into New... New Task. type explorer.exe. Report back here.
install Sp2

ms website
Oh k thanks.
I'm assuming a registry glitch with the drivers while installing. It looks like the best way to solve this is to start from scratch. Sorry man. It happens.
Nah, I fixed it. All I had to do was uninstall the drivers.
