I've just started a (badly paid) job, and I want to save up and get me a nice shiny PC. I've compiled a list of parts, and wanted to see if you guys can help me get it a bit cheaper/ better. I don't want to go over £1200 ($1971).
I'd also like to know if they will all work together (I think they will).

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143852 - Case*
Not including the case, this comes to £961.24. (*I may not buy a case, if I do, probably not this one)
I'm getting one of everything, however the paycheck after the one which will mean I will have enough money for this, I'm going to get a second graphics card.
Fine and dandy, can't get much better than that.

But if you want to splurge on a case, I strongly, highly, insanely suggest the Corsair Obsidian 800D.

Ouch, that's a bit rich. I think I'll give that a miss. It looks very nice though.
Thanks.
You might want to consider getting some better RAM though, and shopping around on Scan and OcUK and Tekheads, to see if they have better deals.
Do you mind if I use OcUK, simply for ease of use?

Just noticed you're going fot the P6T SE, why not just go for the P6T if you have the extra cash? Or are you planning on getting a new monitor?

I don't mind. I use ebuyer because of the lack of postage costs. I'm saving £50 using ebuyer just from postage.
Are you going to be OC'ing? Might want to look into AM cooling if you are.

Possibly, depends how well it performs. I will probably get a better cooler anyway, just not straight away. I'll leave that until a later paycheck. FYI: I get £380 p.m, so that's my monthly budget.
the best advice anyone will give you is don't look months in advance
prices drop quickly
[editline]03:16PM[/editline]
and buy everything at once

I am going to buy everything at once except the graphics cards.
go with i5 for the CPU, works out cheaper and slightly better
go with i5 for the CPU, works out cheaper and slightly better
I think not.
If he has the cash he might as well get the better 920. The i5 only is on par with the 920 in one artificial benchmark, otherwise it gets beaten by the 920. In-game benchmarks most of the processors are within a few FPS of each other, and we don't know how good an overclocker the i5 is compared to the i7 920. So, get the 920.
Problem is is that most of this will be rendered moot after a few months, new hardware comes out and other hardware having prices dropped. You should wait until you are ready to buy the new stuff before you pick it out, that way you won't be wasting your time and you'll get the most out of your money.

The original i7s are actually better than the 1156 CPUs in most areas.

If something better comes out in the mean time, I'll switch to that. This is just a general rough plan.

It's hard to even "roughly plan" something two months prior to purchase. Just wait one week before you plan to buy, then start a new thread here on FP stating your budget and what you want the computer to do.
Well in a couple months nVidia might have there 300 series out.So those might do some competing or possibly even beating ATIs 5xxx series.
Honestly don't pla if your buying is more than a month away, I mean Nvidia's line up is due next month so just wait. also get an i5
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3634&p=16
does better for less
I thought nvidia wasn't interested in DX11.
There's nothing wrong in planning a build a month before, or even 2 months.

Prices change weekly, that is why, what a good deal is tis week may be a horrible one the next
FYI: ebuyer doesn't do many combos, and the ones they do have only save £2-5 at most.

Haha no they don't.

I saved nearly £50 using it. They have no postage costs which is the main reason.

I'll make this clear: I'm getting an i7 whatever happens. I'd much rather be confident buying something I've heard many good things about rather than something which I haven't heard anything about.

Unclog your ears because the i5 gets as many praises if not more than the i7 920.
i7 920 and 940 are to be discontinued anyway.

Meaning they'll be cheaper.

It has a lower number. I don't want it.
