Due to the minimal amount of effort required to actually make the game those cash in are Very rarely a flop.
Yes it will die in a couple of month but it will be profitable enough until then.

Quite a lot of series that used to be good are getting something like this now and it's really annoying. Instead of making a new game for fans of the originals, they just throw together a F2P mobile game that no one really wants.

Why? I mean the people who play mobile games have probably never played Age of Empires or Dungeon Keeper, and the people who have played those games hate mobile gaming for being manipulative shit. There's no reason to use these IPs rather than making some new crap.
