Alright, I'm posting from my slow ass laptop running Ubuntu 10.10, so bear with me. Snowpocalypse 2011 rolls around, we don't get hit bad, it's cold. We have a couple blackouts that last only a few seconds (brownouts?) but either way it causes my PC to turn off because the UPS tells it to turn off when there is no power. In any case, I think one of these power anomalies have wrecked my power supply, because my computer would refuse to post whatsoever. I opened it up and after having to clean my video card off from my retarded liquid cooler dripping on everything (not related, it's nonconductive and I'm gonna buy a fan soon anyway) I do the basics: unplug everything and start adding until it stops posting. Nothing but CPU installed: Beeps because there's no RAM. RAM installed: Sometimes posts. Usually only with one stick in (doesn't matter which one, or which slot.) Video card installed: Won't post at all. Doesn't post with my 9800GTX+ or AMD HD6850. Deciding to give it a few minutes because perhaps a critical component is hot, I turn it off, unplug the power, then press the power switch to discharge all electricity so everything except the CMOS is unpowered. I plug it back in, press the power switch, nothing. I flip the little switch back and forth, nothing. I'm not gonna fuck with the voltage switch because 220V is bad for my PC. I'm thinking the power supply is bad, and it might have taken out the motherboard with it, but I'm not sure I'm in a position to check. Any feedback is much appreciated as I went to go finish a 4000 word essay to find my PC inoperable.
The leaked liquid probably ruined the thermal paste on a bunch of stuff.
The leaked liquid probably ruined the thermal paste on a bunch of stuff.
Not at all. It's not the first time the POS has leaked, but it's definitely the last once I muster up enough cash to get a proper fan. Regardless, the PC will sometimes post. Replugging the power cables seems to have made the PSU work again. It posted once recently with no video card and 1 stick of RAM, it was 2 short beeps meaning it just completed a system check, so IDK. It's been a day so I'll wire it all back up and see if it was just being an ass for the sake of being an ass.
Back up and running on onboard. The PCIe slot went out apparently.
