• Good Sony Vegas equivalent ?

As the title says, I'm looking for a good equivalent of Sony Vegas for either free or less than $50. There probably isn't so I'd like to know what's the closest. Sony Vegas is pretty good and easy to use for simple tasks, as I did on the trial version. (but then those horrible water marks ergh) And I'm not planning to regulary use it so I ain't buy it. If there is totaly nothing close to Vegas, all I'm looking for is something allowing me to cut and assemble pieces of video together, full version, no watermarks. All my google searchs led me to various and obscure doubtful softwares so I rather not take any risk and ask here. Thanks for your help.
there's adobe premiere but that's way outside that price range. I don't even think you can buy a piece of software which does everything sony vegas does for <50$
If all you're looking to do is stitch and trim video clips, Windows Live Movie Maker should work fine for you. It's got some stupid quirks like the inability to encode video that isn't either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, but it'll handle trimming and stitching more than adequately if that's all you're looking to do. Another good program for that sort of thing is VirtualDub. User-friendliness aside, VDub is more than capable of doing what you're asking, though it's a bit harder to set up if you don't know what you're doing codec-wise.
Only thing that's close to Vegas is Vegas Movie Studio. Not free, but it's relatively cheap.

If you're willing to jump through hell, Lightworks can be a very powerful, but very hard to use program.
