Might need an optical drive... Also not so sure about that PSU brand...

Windows 8 is already installed on the ssd. In the last four years they haven't touched the current optical drive once.

Feedback for the psu has given me confidence that it will be perfectly fine for this build.
You can probably get away with a 300w PSU. But ill doubt you will find one thats cheaper.

You will need to re install Windows 8 if the motherboard you buy is different from the one you installed it on.
I was going to question the choice of RAM, but at $7.99 you can't go wrong.
Chromebook? for $250?
Change the PSU.
Chromebook? for $250?
Nein.
The idea is nice but its an extremely high price to be charging for what is essentially a web browser.

I didn't have to with Windows 7, did they change how sysprep works in Windows 8?

Most Motherboards allow you to boot from USB, that mean's he could just use a USB drive to install it.
Change the PSU.
That isn't exactly helpful.

Newegg reviews are decent. If it was any more than $20 I'd agree.
Keep in mind if you get cheap parts you're going to have to really make sure they won't break down on your oblivious parents.

hope you have a fire extinguisher near your pc
I honestly think that PSU will be fine, this thing will only use like 160w max.
Get these instead, so much better:

I'm really regretting the mobo I bought cause it won't post. I'm thinking of just trashing it and buying those two. None of the psu+case combos are cheap, and The case I did buy is actually a pretty solid case. I'll just have to wait and see if this psu is reliable.
[editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
I also really like that that mobo has DVI.
[editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
I'll get a refund for the broken mobo and sell the Sempron on ebay. Updated OP.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147099 ? Maybe, I dunno.

That is cheaper than the combo I chose, I'll ask my grandma if she wants a computer.
