So my card is over heating, I did take it apart, and applied thermal paste. but now it's overheating when ever I play games, some times web browsing. fan speed doesn't change anything since it over heats at 50-80 temp so I'm guessing I didn't do a good job on applying thermal paste.
Is there a right or wrong way to apply thermal paste , If money isn't an issue, is applying to much a bad thing ?
Can some one link me over to info on how to apply thermal paste onto the 4870 x2 , maybe I missed a chip.
If all else fails should I buy a new heat sink or just a new card? and what card do you guys recommend for just starcraft2 on max (beta atm)
You shouldn't apply too much. That will make your temps worse.
You'll need some on the main core(s) and maybe a dab on the memory modules.
Do you have an x2 or 2 cards in Crossfire?
I have 2 4870's in CF and ordered some Scythe Musashi coolers with them because they keep overheating here to.
You can manually set the fanspeed of your stock cooler to 45% to keep them stable but it makes alot of noise.

well, it says it overheats @ 60-70 temp so fan speed can be @100% and still fail

Ati never sets their own fanspeeds over 35% with my cards.
Try to do it manually.
Also did you remove the old paste before you put on the new stuff?
