Why do people use game for windows live? It seems really unconventional for me.

What do you mean why do they use it? Maybe it's because they're forced to...?

Trust me, nobody, ever, ever wants to use it, but we are forced.
FORCED.
It's part of the dark souls experience though so I guess.
To be perfectly honest I'm fine sticking with GFWL when comparing it to a good proportion of my DaSII online experiences.
It could just be the sheer number of people playing but my connectivity quality has lowered considerably. Mass lag the likes I've never actually experienced in several hundred PvP/Coop hours of the first game.

I for one, welcome the first boss as logging in.
I bought dark souls soon after release despite it's porting problems. But to this day I can't play online because gfwl is being a fucking asshole and won't let me login.
When I started reading the title it got me excited because I thought that steam would provide the servers.
Maybe one day.
I will say, something GFWL did right was messaging.
To the day I die, I will always laugh someone calling me a "lagstabbing bithc"
I lost my savegame and was waiting for it to implement Steamworks to start again, sigh.
