So like the title says, what is your favorite DE? Why?
Used to use KDE (When I was on Mandrake (Now Mandriva?)), I hated Gnome back then.
When I switched to Ubuntu, gnome won over me. I have to admit I haven't tried anything else but Xfce.
I'm a Gnome user, because I use Linux as a Windows replacement, and want similar user-friendly functionality. I however prefer LXDE on older machines.
I use DWM.

KDE is ugly IMO, Gnome is nice.

And then the stuff like Fluxbox etc., I just find them to be too rough around the edges in terms of aesthetics.
I like Gnome because it keeps out of my way for the most part. And Gconf is handy.
I just wish they wouldn't keep removing features in the name of simplicity.
I use openbox... Even if it's not a DE but a WM...
I generally don't like the big all-in-one DEs. I like to pick and choose the software I want to use. Also, it's light.
I don't use a desktop environment, I only use a window manager: dwm.
Am I the only one who likes KDE? Wow :smith:

Yes, KDE is fucking horrible. I can't stand it.
Although, Gnome isn't exactly ideal either. :/
KDE irritates me, when using it I dont feel connected to my computer. It felt bloated and rigid to me. After 30 mins of trying to customize it I just gave up and went back to gnome.
I use Openbox usually, but lately DWM has had my fancy.
I enjoy gnome, but I love how lightweight and awesome openbox is
Installed kubuntu-desktop onto a Ubuntu PC one night, never wanted to open GNOME again.
KDE might be bloated, but damn it's awesome. My new preferred DE.
I use WindowMaker.

I used windowmaker for a while that shit was pimp yo
KDE :h:
Real Men use the bare command line.
As I am not quite a Real Man, I use WindowMaker when I boot into a GUI. Of course, half the time I just use Cygwin on my Windows laptop and SSH in, then set X to use that.
Openbox + Thunar + Xfce4-Panel = God TIER
My preference changes pretty often.
When I started with Linux, I was really into fluxbox and the other blackbox-like WMs. Now I use XFCE4/Gnome most of the time. I used AwesomeWM for a while -- first as a stand-alone window manager, then as a replacement for Metacity/XFWM. I maintain most of my shortcuts and bindings from Awesome, even with other WMs. They pretty much became muscle memory.
Gnome has a real problem with window resizing. I can't bind meta-RMB to window resize, which totally destroys my ability to function.
Using any WM/DE stock is a pretty big pain in the ass for me. After customization, I can work with most. I use a script called stiler to tile windows in non-tiling environments. It's bound to the "menu" key between right-meta and right-control.
The only WM/DE that I have a real problem with is KDE. I can't stand it.

I don't like LXDE much, either.
I am completely happy with KDE 3.5. Gnome lacks features compared to it.

feh, if you like wallpapers.
I'm using Gnome and OpenBox. I'm not sure why, but when I use OB my laptop uses a lot less resources. Without OB my RAM use is like 22% without any other processes. Just openbox is 8%, and the two combined is 14%. :tinfoil:

KDE is pretty damn terrible. I use Gnome on my laptop running Ubuntu, but I did try using OpenBox for the WM, it didn't work out too well. I've used Xfce on it before too, that was pretty nice to use.
XFCE with openbox as WM
Window Maker + Xfc4-panel
Gnome + Metacity (Compiz fucks my framerates in TF2)

Explain to me how you got source working in Linux. I keep getting some error about a buffer rate, and I've been messing around with shell scripts to try and fix it, but I can't get it.
I used to use LXDE (it is awesome, although XFCE is much nicer in many areas). Now I only use Compiz, Thunar, and xfce4-panel (because lxpanel sucks ass). Oh and by the way, PCManFM (part of LXDE) is not a very good file manager, believe me. The desktop and context menu are fucked up. :colbert:

You realize Openbox is a WM right? :siren:
I dunno. I use it standalone sometimes. Works great.
Right, but it's not a DE it's a WM.
