• Getting rid of a RAMDisk?
    8 replies, posted
I used a program called RAMDisk to make a drive out of RAM so I could play Minecraft at a higher FPS until I got a better CPU, So I got a better CPU and i've uninstalled RAMDisk but under my disk manager it says that there is still 350mb unallocated, that's the amount of RAM dedicated to my old RAMDisk. I've looked at some other forums but none of them solve the problem. Basically my main question is:
How can I relocate my unallocated RAMDisk space back to my RAM?
Also, Just because it's listed in the disk manager does that mean that's it's been sent back to the RAM or it's still just unallocated space? I hope someone could help me out. Thanks!
Maybe reinstall this RAMdisk program and use it to unpartition the RAM? That's kind of sketchy using your memory like that though...
That's kind of sketchy using your memory like that though...
What's so "sketchy" about a RAM disk? They've been available in some form for probably 3 decades now. If you need temporary storage that's blistering fast, it makes sense.
I guess I'm just not comfortable with storing important information in such a volatile medium. And because I've never heard of it. -.-
You aren't supposed to store important information solely on RAM disks. If the information is important, it should have a rsync setup to copy it to a proper storage medium every few minutes, or whenever it's changed in case of a more static set of data.

You already got your answer. Reinstall the RAMDISK software, delete the RAM Disk partition and then uninstall the RAMDISK software again.
If your RAMDisk won't uninstall together with the software, look for it in the Device Manager. This RAMDisk is a virtual device driver, and sometimes it won't uninstall properly. You can then uninstall it from the device manager. I used a RAMDisk to run my Minecraft server from. Got rid of it when I bought a SSD for my server though. If you are using DataRAM's software: it's riddled with bugs. Some PC's won't shut down properly and the disk will sometimes get corrupted randomly whilst saving. Use Imdisk instead. You need figure out the command lines a bit, but it's worth it.
Thanks bro, I was looking through the list of drivers and a "Virtual RAM Disk" was in the list. I uninstalled it and now I can use all my RAM :D
