• 2x MSI GTX 560ti or 1x MSI GTX 580?

Hey facepunch, I'm after a new graphics card, the question is would a single MSI GTX 580 outperform 2 MSI GTX560ti's? They are roughly around the same price mark, but 2 cards would produce more heat then a single card right? Feedback would be appreiciated :)
Depends if you sandwich them together or what. If you leave a slot between them then it does not produce that much more heat. 560Ti would be better. 580 gives you a possibility to go SLI later. If you PSU is powerful enough, I would go 2x 560Ti.
I think a single GTX 580 would be a wiser investment but two 560's will be slightly faster. Perhaps you could even wait for the new series or get an AMD 7950/7970?
SLI should (usually) be an upgrade path for the future, if you already have a 560 TI, get another. If you don't, get a 580.
The 580, because then you can buy another 580 later on when you've got dosh again. What Shadizzles said.
Aren't some games having trouble with a SLI setup anyway?
Aren't some games having trouble with a SLI setup anyway?
Crossfire yes. SLI, hardly. Any game which has issues with SLI will run fine on a single 560 or 580 anyway.
Thanks for the help guys, I will most likely purchase a 580. Like you's have said if I want to go with SLI later 2x 580's will obviously have a lot more performance then 2x 560's. But going for a 580 means I need to be more patient to save up the money.
Aren't 580s obsolete now with the 7950/7970s having more features and generally better performance overall?

I'd never buy any AMD card after this HD 6970.
I suppose I'm biased because I've had no issues with AMD.
A GTX 580 is going to perform a hell lot better then my current 9600gt anyway was I asking about AMD cards?
Get the 580, and then get another 580 later. Also make sure your PSU is capable of pulling a 580, maybe even 2.
Yeah. Do you think a 600watt PSU would supply enough power for a single GTX 580?
Yes, but not for two.
Depends on the brand ??

Whether you like the drivers or not, the 7950/7970 provides a performance increase, lower temps, noise and power levels and with a larger headroom for overclocking on launch, than the GTX 580 does right now. It's a no-brainer in my opinion, no matter what you might prefer.
Maybe wait for Nvidia Kelper GPUs to come out?
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/nvidia_struggling_poor_28nm_yields Looks like it's gonna be Fermi all over again
Yeah but...
...On the bright side, Huang told analysts that Kepler "…is probably the best GPU we have ever built and the performance and power efficiency is surely the best that we have ever created." And once Kepler GPUs do start hitting the shelves, expect them to do so in droves...
So we have to wait a little longer for an awesome piece of technology. That's fine with me. Just as long as the person in charge of counting the transistors doesn't get lazy like... what was that other company?
The CPU division of AMD?

And while Kepler is probably going to be better, what about the price? It's not neccessarily better overall.
It was only a joke that a company couldn't count their transistors. I know it was the Bulldozer CPU and had nothing to do with their GPU's. I'm not an Nvidia fanboy that hates AMD or anything, just a friendly joke.
That wasn't the guys making GPUs. I was under the impression once the fabs got running at any decent rate that the prices of both sides would be roughly the same as the last generation.
