Some exploits do add to the game experience, like the aforementioned Quake 3 and Tribes situations. You also have to make sure to know which ones are problematic, though; like being able to glitch a grenade through a door in CS:GO if it hits a buddy standing infront of said door, or Gears of War 1's coverbouncing that let people just sort of zig-zag in improbable ways for a very concisely designed game just to get close for a one-shot shotgun kill. And even if an exploit adds to a skill ceiling without crippling those on or close to the skill floor, their existence is always going to cause turmoil. Just look at Super Smash Bros. Melee and the L-Canceling, Wavedashing, and numerous other things. Some of which (like canceling) were left in despite being discovered by the devs, while others became so mainstay in the community that they'd rip your goddamn head off if you complain about it to them.

Wavedashing was just a discovered byproduct however.
IMO, exploits in general are fun. It's only when they're abused that they become not fun. Like for example when ctf_landfall was introduced to tf2, it had an exploit where you could get outside of the map. It was a lot of fun in a live server especially when you could teleport your entire team outside of the map (and your team lost because of it) Exploits like rocketjumping were okay because anyone could do it. Thus even if they were abused, you could abuse them back. In which case it became a mechanic.
