• Big-ass computer crash problem

Written with an iPod Touch I haven't been on my PC for a week and tonight I finally booted it up. Anyway, when I booted it up it worked for 2 minutes and after that, my computer made a clicking noise as if it had been shut off. 5 seconds later, a segment of the sound previously playing(a sound in Second Life) started repeating as if my PC had crashed. I couldn't move my cursor. 2 seconds passed. This is where it gets weird: My PC restarted itself. My friend told me to run a virus scan. I ran one. There were no threats found. I tried running a full system scan instead of a quick one. But then my computer crashed again. I was pretty concerned at this point. So I thought you guys on FP could help me. Either that or be total assholes. I sticked with the helping theory. So can someone please help me out here?
i think this would have worked better if you posted in the right section. [editline]7th January 2011[/editline] on a more helpful note, sounds like its overheating, can we get some temps and specs..?
I don't understand. If it was such a big ass, how did you crash your computer into it?
what antivirus did you scan it with?

Also, try leaving it for a bit, then rebooting it, and if it still doesn't work, wait til the next day, unplug plugs, get it checked, anything you can think of really.
It sounds like you're pushing your computer too hard :v:

Usually a sound repeats from a game repeats only when the game crashes. Not the actual PC.
Usually a sound repeats from a game repeats only when the game crashes. Not the actual PC.
I was also breathing into the mic and part of the breathing sound repeated too
What kind of clicking noise? Noise from the game or from the computer? If it's the latter, it's most likely a dying hard drive. ^ Ninja'd. :smith:

Also I only have a couple GB on my hard drive [editline]8th January 2011[/editline] :smith:
Sounds like a video related crash, when something is wrong with the video card it tends to freeze the image on the screen even though the rest functions May be overheating, install HWMonitor and post a screenshot
My video card was overheating, there were clumps of dust in the fan. Got 'em out! Thanks for the help though guys!! [editline]8th January 2011[/editline] Damn it, it did it again!! It's possibly a dying hard drive. I have no doubt, the thing's old as hell.
You should get to backing up your data before that thing bites the dust.
Now it's broken. I tried everything. The son of a bitch just does not want to work. :sigh:
I just got a new hard drive and installed Windows 7 on it and it WORKS!! Thanks for the help guys! :D
You didn't lose any important stuff?
You didn't lose any important stuff?
Well I lost my Left 2 Die .gmk... ...which I spent hard work on... ;(
Try running a free hd recovery program?
Try running a free hd recovery program?
Piriform Recuva, specifically.
You know that Left 2 Die thing I said earlier?
Well I lost my Left 2 Die .gmk... ...which I spent hard work on... ;(
Well I'm completely remaking the engine, sprites and sounds. Also since my new hard drive has 500 GB on it, that shouldn't be so hard to do :D I'll make a thread with some gameplay and photos. When I'm satisfied and ready to almost release the game I'll put up a playable beta. Here's an old video with some concept art and shit, with a Sonic song for no apparent reason: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNNwPyCo7fg As it says in the description, it'll have video game characters.
