The realistic shadows don't mesh well with the cartoonish aesthetics. At the very least throw in some cel-shading or something to make it less jarring.
Lets hope the environments are better than the character designs. ...eaugh.
The grass in that image is literally tiling worse than gm_flatgrass
That picture just reeks of amateurism Obvious repeating textures, ill-advised choice of shadows, completely smooth model with barebones textures, and that fucking horrible stretched texture blending - you can almost see the grid, for fucks sake. It's like a 1990s CGI show

Fucking spyro enter the dragonfly.
All that engine power wasted on that. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline]
"you associate CryEngine with lush, tropical, beachy things. These are also things with which Sonic is associated, so they work together."
Ugh
it's almost like. sonic 06...
Sonic 06 actually had some decent models for a mid 2000s game, the big problem was that most animations were obviously raw mocap and the world actually lacked shadows which made it look really bad. As far as visuals go, Sonic 06 could've been a lot worse.
I hope that's not a screenshot, or is some early pre-alpha shit
jesus christ that picture looks like shit
the sonic boom models are getting their details from the normal mapping. [t]http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140213175248/sonic/images/3/31/Tails_Sonic_Boom_V2.png[/t] click to see what i mean [sp]it doesn't even look like they have a normal map in the image[/sp]
Why would they waste the money on licencing such a high profile engine if they're not going to use it. Here's what I think when I think CryEngine: [editline]21st April 2014[/editline]
the sonic boom models are getting their details from the normal mapping. I love how every time this game has new pre-release material come out, it just looks worse and worse. By the month before release, it'll just be early PS1 graphics, Sonic will have obscenely-long Strider legs, Knuckles will just be a blob of muscles, and everyone will be 100% covered in bandages.

Did the game get a visual downgrade since the trailer?

It's awful. Can they just put the nail in the coffin already? Sonic games were okay at best.
They have chosen the worst screenshot for their article: http://www.shacknews.com/game/sonic-boom/screenshots?gallery_id=28551&screen_id=733970

So they chose Cryengine because one Cryengine game takes place on a beach? Do they even know how an engine works?
So they chose Cryengine because one Cryengine game takes place on a beach? Do they even know how an engine works?
nnnnope clearly some old corporate businessman saw a picture of a cryengine game on a beach and went "our game has a beach level too right? hot tamale!!! buy that engine!!" and thus here we are i know its fun to believe that corporations are just a group of braindead bumbling idiots but come on now
CryEngine on the Wii U? :v:
CryEngine has had Wii U support since the Wii U came out.
CryEngine has had Wii U support since the Wii U came out.
iirc, Crytek had an "upgraded" Wii U version of Crysis 3 that was pretty much ready to be released before EA canned it.
Why would they waste the money on licencing such a high profile engine if they're not going to use it.
Well, it is only $10 a month now..
