I would like to use PSgroove to enable homebrew on my ps3. I have no intentions to use it to play backups, just wanted to clarify that. Now I understand that you have to run PSgroove everytime you boot up your ps3 to use homebrew. Now is there a way to remove the files produced by this jailbreak? Can Sony ban me even if I only play offline and never sign into PSN while using it?
The original version of psgroove doesn't have backup support, so you're in the clear.
As far as I am aware, the ps3 does not keep track of anything related to the hack. It is entirely hardware based. If you went on PSN with the debug portion of the console enabled, they might be able to detect that. However, the ps3 does keep track of your recently played games, and any homebrew application would need to sign itself as a "game". This is uploaded to PSN as soon as you connect, so they could possibly ban your account. Apparently the log is plain text located somewhere in the ps3's file system, so you might be able to delete or change that with the ftp manager that was recently released.

What are you using to load PSgroove onto your PS3? Did you buy one of the sticks?

At present you can use a Teensy, TI-84, or any of these uCs:

[*] AT90USB647
[*] AT90USB1286
[*] AT90USB1287

I take it TI-84 means TI-84 and not 89...
Ugh. I know a lot of the Teensy places were on backorder.

Sorry for not posting for a while. Ok so I will be using a TI-84 to do this. Just to confirm, if I make a new user on my PS3 and turn off internet access then it is impossible for me to get banned for using this, even if I did use it for my own personal backups?

From what I've been reading, yes. It's only going online that could send that you're in debug mode.
Ok thanks for all of your advice! I might make the jump tonight.
now if only I had a proper USB chip to do this with.
Use a TI-84. They aren't too hard to come by, borrow one from a friend.

I found out one of my friends has one, so I'm totally in luck.
Use a Ham and Cheese sandwhich.
