A program for recording sounds through the computer?

I've been looking for a program to record sounds through my PC, i don't mean through the speakers or mic or anything, i mean say i was watching a video on youtube, is there a program to record the sound from that straight into a file without the need for any hardware?
Get audacity and record through Stereo Mix.
What PieClock said. Or, if you don't want to put much effort into it...you can try this.

I used that for a while then it stopped working for some reason. You can also save videos with it in FLV format.
Start->Programs->Accessories->Entertainment->Sound Recorder

system tray volume->properties->recording->tick "what u hear"
If you can't figure it out from there you might as well turn off the computer and play with an abacus
The tricky part is if "Stero Mix" or "What U Hear" don't show up in Windows Sound options. Make sure your sound card drivers are updated and you should be good to go.
Worst case scenario, buy an audio cable and connect it to your speaker and mic jack. Then you can just record like you would using a mic.
Once you get it working, make sure you set the recording levels waaaay lower than usual or you'll get really bad clipping.
