• Computer crash (lines down screen) - what is this

About 10 minutes ago my computer froze up (I was playing oblivion at the time) and nothing worked - I couldn't alt-tab or windows+d out, or ctrl+alt+del. IIRC this has happened before, a while ago, only the colours were steam green/grey. I had to hold the power button to turn it off, then turned it back on straight after. I'm posting from it now, so it doesn't seem to have affected my PC at all. It looked like this: (but the entire screen was full of it) What is going on with my computer?
Graphics Card is dying.
Sounds like your video card probably overheated. Try monitoring your temp while in game and post how high they get.
it's dying? it's a new card. (about 2 months old) I have an ATI Radeon 5770.
Not exactly dying, but definitely overheating. Reboot, and see if it happens again. Rebooting is always good.
Have done, it doesn't happen often. It's happened twice in the last 2 months. I went on ATIs forums, but the only fix suggested in this thread seems to be "update your drivers" and "it's a problem with windows 7". http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=124747&enterthread=y My specs are: Windows 7 Professional Intel Core2Duo E6750 @ 2.66 ghz ATI Radeon 5770 graphics card 2 GB RAM 500GB Hard Drive Can you reccommend a program to monitor temperature? If you need anything else tell me.
I use Pc wizard from cpuid for monitoring fan speed and heat. http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php
Looks like your GPU is trying to write a suicide letter. Hence the note paper style.

Definitely an overheat. Try running the PC with the case open and see if the problem's still there. If it isn't, get a supplementary fan. If it is, your graphics card is dying, despite its age.
