I like guild wars 2.
it hides grinding really well. i honestly don't like it in WoW When some guy says "go kill 10 boar thanks"
In Guild wars 2 it's like "Help escort <this dude/group>" and get attacked by bad guys every now and then. or "Help this farm/dude get shit done around him that sometimes involves actual combat, you get free karma money and exclusive items to buy as a award!"

What I like is that I can go anywhere in an area and still feel like I can find something purposeful to do. Just stumbling upon an event is awesome.

I agree, but the diversity in enemies was rather mundane.
I was fighting the same creatures from level 10 when I was level 50.

personally i think it does a terrible job of hiding the grind. every single quest is "get this many pointless objects" or "kill this many fluffy animals" or "press f next to this many static objects". it hides it all behind a progress bar instead of saying you need exactly 10 giant rat pelts or something, but it's no less obnoxiously mundane.

So it shouldn't display your progress? Great idea there!
He obviously meant when taking quests. Since most of the things have a reason.
I got to level 80, 100% world completion, maxed cooking and tailoring, and then lost interest in the game. ArenaNet said cooking was the most difficult craft in the game; it was pathetically easy. Leveling was also too easy and too fast, not to mention that completing all maps practically killed any chance of making an alt.
The endgame is non existent, unless you think endgame is running the same dungeon 1000 times just to get one of the mats necessary to craft some legendary item. The legendary items have absolutely insane requirements, while providing mostly a different look, because diminishing returns kick in very early.
If you're like me and do not like PvP, all that is left are useless, stupid achievements, and useless, boring holiday events. Yet ArenaNet seems to be restocking on these instead of releasing an expansion.
The AH is hyper-inflated, everything people create through crafting is selling for one copper more than the vendor price. You can't make money unless you flip hundreds of items of the same type - some people do this and they're the only one able to use the Mystic Forge enough to get something good out of it.
Overall, I don't regret my purchase, but this game has no lasting value.
Does this PCgamesN site cause anyone else's browser to freeze for like ten seconds while the site loads?
A bit irritating.

Well...
"Hey, I'd appreciate it if you could help me around here, keep the troops morale up, hold back some of the attackers and fix up the damage from the attacks" and "Aight, you've been a great help to me, here's a little cash, appreciate it."
Feels a lot more natural than
"Hey, I need exactly 7 fine brown boar pelts so I could save the world!" and "7 fine brown boar pelts? Yesss, here, have this priceless relic I found laying about, and some cash, you did good, and uhh, speaking of which, could you go and get me 14 exquisite yellow wolf manes? Appreciate it."
imo

I'd say it's a good deal less obnoxious. You go from having to talk some some guy, get a quest to kill 10 rats, kill them, and then return to getting a large number of things you can do just from walking by the area, many of which can overlap with world events going on at the time, and just do them as you're passing by.
I agree with you that it's just as mundane, but it's a lot less obnoxious.

I just wish the events were something more enjoyable than "Gather x" and "Kill y".
It's an MMO, and one with a huge game world to boot, so I don't mind the majority of the quests being to kill shit but it feels like I've done nothing else but decimate three ecosystems worth of Centaurs.

Surprisingly enough, WoW has changed in the several years since it launched and questing is much better. TBC is still about what you describe but since Wrath came out they started doing more story-based quests that connect a region in the zone with the overall story. It feels very much like a traditional RPG than an MMO. This went through to Cataclysms remake of 1-60 content as well. It wasn't a complete overhaul (Barrens is still boring as fuck) but questing made massive improvements.
My favorite leveling part of the game is actually the 1-50 chunk comprising of northern Eastern Kingdoms, around Lordaeron. From the Forsaken starting zone to the Plaguelands it feels like a natural progress of moving your factions influence steadily forward, dealing with sidequests on the side. You have cutscenes and even the occasional bit of voice acting. Minor characters from vanilla come back to play larger roles as overseers or companions. It's really nice.

Instead you get 50% boars killed.
I'd rather see the numbers instead of some arbitrary percentage.

I get it sometimes, seems to be random but it's definitely from PCgamesN only for me.

yea i noticed that when i came back via pandaria. they made the game feel like it gives a actual shit about what you do.
i love the new monk class and it's probably the only reason im going through the burning crusade right now to get to lvl 70 ( i couldn't stand burning crusades grinding, i loved the story shit though)
