Have they ever spent on advertising? I know this started up as a word-of-mouth only thing, but I doubt it reached 9 million sales with that alone. [editline]21st January 2013[/editline] wow they finally removed those bs "live" counters that kept going up every second, even if you weren't connected to the internet or anything

YouTube is the main reason for the games success.
good for them
wow they finally removed those bs "live" counters that kept going up every second, even if you weren't connected to the internet or anything
I thought those were just counting upwards based on statistics, like it had already calculated it sold maybe 100 copies every hour it would keep counting that because it had it in memory or something.
I want a cumulative graph and a graph of copies sold per day.
I thought those were just counting upwards based on statistics, like it had already calculated it sold maybe 100 copies every hour it would keep counting that because it had it in memory or something.
The plausibility for that is directly related to the amount of self respect their web developer has, granted he is working for Mojang then probably not much :v:
It certainly helped that, across all platforms, 453,000 copies of the game were sold on Christmas Eve alone.
This is all you need to know to figure out the main audience of Minecraft.
Minecraft could've been a really good if the game would've been constantly updated like they promised. I still had lots of fun with it and I guess many other people, too. I'm cool with this.

How they still sell 10,000 copies a day is astounding considering how long it's been since "release".
i would buy this game, but not for $28 and it's never gone on sale
i would buy this game, but not for $28 and it's never gone on sale
It was on sale for over a year.
putting money into an alpha isn't a sale
i would buy this game, but not for $28 and it's never gone on sale
Wait. It's 28$ now? I bought it for 5 euro's (but that was a long long time ago):/
wow they finally removed those bs "live" counters that kept going up every second, even if you weren't connected to the internet or anything
pretty sure all of those do that
Wait. It's 28$ now? I bought it for 5 euro's (but that was a long long time ago):/
That, and everyone who bought it before that first Christmas (Way back when, just months after the initial alpha build) got a free copy to give to anyone.
270 million dollars made from that game, wow (9,000,000 copies at like $30 each)
8,999,500 D: 500 people buy it now!
The perfect themesong for such an occasion:
annnnnnnnnd 9 million
Wait. It's 28$ now? I bought it for 5 euro's (but that was a long long time ago):/
ever since the "release" the price got jacked up, despite basically being the same product that you would have spent much less on a day or two before
Minecraft might be the best-selling Minecraft ever.
Good on them, regardless on your opinion of the game, it's definitely unique and gives you very little limit on what to do.

Just think: Mojang sold 18,000 units today. $1 each... Come on, no wonder Notch enjoys his success.

I dont really enjoy minecraft but 0x10c looks genius, hope they dont fuck it.
putting money into an alpha isn't a sale
When minecraft was free back in the earliest stages of its development, i played it for hours and hours on end. When it went alpha, and was ~$10 i bought it and played it for hours and hours. Wasn't a perfect game, but it pretty much got better and better from then on, and I still got way more out of it than the $10 i put in.
What? They still update it. 1.4.7 just came out, and the latest snapshot is 4 days old
It's really more like they update it again, since Jeb began working on it updates have begun appearing at a somewhat decent rate again, but for a long time up until release very little happened in the way of updates. Remember secret fridays? That was the shit.
