• [Windows 7] PNG as a wallpaper looks like a badly compressed JPEG

The original is this: [img_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9623815/FP/FP-Background.png[/img_thumb] Now as a wallpaper: [img_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9623815/FP/FP-Background2.png[/img_thumb] Look at the X's, that's not supposed to be, right? How am I supposed to fix this?
They look fine to me.
I can see that it is compressing it. Try updating your drivers
As far as I know, Windows does not directly support using PNGs as wallpapers so it will automatically convert them to a low quality JPEG. Until Windows gets proper PNG support your only options are to save it as a BMP or a high quality JPEG.
Set it via the control panel and it won't artifact.
Save as JPEG Put in C:/Windows/Web/Wallpaper Set via Control Panel No artifacts

PNG wallpapers work fine for me they don't lose quality.
Easy fix: Open and set it as a wallpaper via Firefox. I have the same problem.

[QUOTE=pebkac;25224531][/QUOTE] High enough quality and there won't be any really noticeable ones. Sure it's not lossless but it's better than something at quality 50.

Sure at highest quality and without color channel subsampling it'll look pretty much the same as original, but there's no reason you'd want to do that. Also OP, did you make the background yourself? The stripes on it are a terrible copy-paste job, they are broken in multiple places.
