Also featuring redesigned PC settings app, which now actually does stuff the Control Panel did before, like resolution changing, and new Metro apps: Calculator, Clock, Sound Recorder, and some sort of a video editor.

Looks nice. Is it known if it will be like a Service Pack, or another Windows version itself?
probably something like mac os updates
I'm still not sure if I should switch to Win8. I let this thread decide it.
Rate agree if I should do it, disagree if I shouldn't.
probably something like mac os updates
So, paid updates, basically? I guess it'll be not very expensive, because Windows 8 itself was around 30 euros.
and it still looks the same
and it still looks the same
Were you expecting a massive overhaul of an OS that was only released 7 months ago?

Seriously, decide for yourself. Install Windows 8 in a VM and check it yourself and if you like it, switch to it, if you don't then don't switch to it.
I'm using Windows 8 and i'm happy with it, some people don't like it because of the
removed start button and the added metro menu, but i think the metro menu is more organized.
I find my stuff faster in metro menu then in start menu.
I thought there was talk of making Windows Blue the first "Free" expansion for Windows.
Like a Service pack, but with features too.
EDIT: To the guy above, I don't even use the Start Screen. I find I can do everything through the desktop... I never realized just how absolutely unnecessary the Start Menu actually was until Windows 8!

Nothing has been confirmed but it's speculated that it'd be free.
Also Windows 8 is $120 - $200.

It depends how much it costs, if you pirate it then it's free, if you're in Croatia (like me), then it's ~$40

What? You're telling me they didn't completely remove metro like facepunch wanted and brought back the start button?
Holy shit this is surprise of the year........ [sp]this is sarcasm btw[/sp]

Wasn't it about 30€ at launch or something?

Honestly, Metro's pretty good. Granted, I don't actually use Metro 99% of the time... Explorer and cmd.exe are good enough for me.
and it still looks the same
make up your mind, do you want everything to be the same or different
Honestly, Metro's pretty good. Granted, I don't actually use Metro 99% of the time... Explorer and cmd.exe are good enough for me.
Microsoft needs time to refine it a bit. It's still pretty wonky.
Wasn't it about 30€ at launch or something?
There was a discounted sale, but it wasn't the actual price of the product.
Microsoft needs time to refine it a bit. It's still pretty wonky.
Agreed. It's not all there yet, but when it is, it'll be something revolutionary.

Everything about this is hideous, egh. That tile gradient...
Microsoft got Metro design right, but the start menu design completely wrong, it's so hideous.
[sub][sub]I'm not talking about functionality.[/sub][/sub]
which tile gradient, there's a lot of tiles there
and it still looks the same
says the man posting on a ithing where the ui has not changed much in YEARS
I think he means the fact there are even gradients to begin with. Personally I think it would look better without the gradient as well.
The start menu is beautiful if you get something like the magic track pad or some laptop track pads where you can scroll left or right with two fingers

Ehh, I don't think they've changed the tiles in any way, save for the size stuff. Whatever gradient there might be, it's very slight. Though I agree that they could've made it look a bit more like WP.

it's jailbroken tho so it's cool
which tile gradient, there's a lot of tiles there
The bloody standard one, you know the dark-light gradient on pretty much every tile?
They finally removed the Vista pre Beta 2 frames from the installer.

And they still don't have the actual borders yet :v:
The bloody standard one, you know the dark-light gradient on pretty much every tile?
ah
yeah they should get rid of that
this is an early as fuck beta tho so they might change shit
