• How to use steam again if on external HDD?

I installed steam and everything steam on an external HDD. Now that I have a new 30GB SSD, when I try to run steam (the application inside the HDD) it doesn't work. The first time I have tried running it, it said "Steam is not properly installed on this computer". Every time after when I try to run it, it does nothing. Anyone know how I can run steam and all the games while keeping all my games and the information inside them?
If you actu-(wait, don't get critical, yet) read online, it will say:
It is not recommended that you install Steam to an external hard drive due to potential performance issues.
This is why, and because USB doesn't have the transfer speeds of SATA or even PATA.
Wait, steam just popped up after like 5 minutes. All is good.
And loading times will be slow. Have fun... That's right, Steam did that for me when I moved it.
Meh, I have all my games and steam running on an external hard drive. Haven't seen loss of speed.

I have Steam on my external, seems to work just fine.
just install steam on your regular drive, then copy the steamapps folder over to the new installation. all settings and data will be intact
