What we know about the new i3: The Clarkdale-based Core i3 has an integrated GPU - an improved equivalent of the integrated graphics found in Intel’s current G45 chipset. It is a hybrid 32 nm/45 nm multi-chip package using the 32 nm CPU core and the 45 nm technology for the memory controller and GPU.
The shops that were selling the H57 chipset from Asus have set the price up pretty high, all the shops wanted between $233 and $247 for the P7H57D-V EVO, which compares badly to similar Asus P55 motherboards that retail for about $170...
But when they are officially released, the prices will be along with more affordable p55 motherboards.
Intel has signed agreements with all of the motherboard makers that allow them to distribute boards for reviews which can appear on the 3rd of January, but none ahead of that date. However, the same Intel agreement also contains a clause about no H55 or H57 based motherboards entering retail outlets before the 7th of January. We don’t know if Asus has somehow gotten dispensation or if it has just chosen to ignore Intel.

Well guys, I think we can say that intel hasn't fucked up yet, the core i3/5/7 series is becoming a great consumer board.
Great!
I'm currently loving my i5.
Lame... i5 and i3 are steps backwards from the i7 advancements, and that's not the direction computer progress is to be heading. You must be piss-poor to need an i3 anyways.

Not everyone can afford or needs the best hardware available.

They're supposed to make things more affordable, and or for servers or just a plain old web browsing computer.

Not at all, they fill in the low to mid range of CPUs that Intel was lacking with the 1156 and 1366 sockets, plus they introduce the more technically advanced 32nm process. They're perfect replacements for the C2Ds and low end C2Qs.
I guess they'd be good as nettops.

wow, gigantic levels of dumb from you again
first of all no, they're a step forward towards the advancements, it's just they're a step forward for mid and low end
second, maybe you should learn that power isn't everything, grandma doesn't need an i9 to check her emails and google things
thirdly, you sound like a spoilt little shit

First of all yes, they may be a step forward for low end shit, but there's really no need for a low-end CPU that performs like a shitty Celeron. That makes as much sense as intel making new Pentium 3 CPUs with the new i3 architecture. :downs: Every Celeron I've used makes the PC freeze with simple operations, like file transfers or managing two or more open apps at a time.
second, power IS everything, and it's always good to have extra headroom to work with. An i7 would do grandma fine, and leave her power to spare. I'm a firm believer in always having extra power on hand than you actually need, because you may actually need it for something intense someday, like games or video encoding. It's never a good idea to skate by with the bare minimum.
Third, I'm not spoiled by any means. I work hard, but my PC parts with the extra cash I save at the end of the month, and upgrades come at tax time.
Onboard DVI?
probably..
in other news (late probably)
The i3 got the world record for Super Pi 1M, scoring 6 seconds @ 6GHz..

These aren't P3s or Celerons. They're not going to make new low end CPUs that perform worse than their old ones.

And that's why everyone should have a Ferrari to drive down the street for groceries. There is such a thing as overkill.

...not when that "overkill" will eventually be needed. :downs:
That's like buying a netbook for portability, and suddenly you need it to convert a Blu-ray movie to an MKV file... but you don't have the processing power. Poor you, should have thought ahead. :smug:

I know the concept of future-proofing, thank you. There are people and situations where a top of the line computer is not needed nor will ever be needed. I can guarantee that my mom is never going to do more with her computer than send email, watch online videos and balance her checkbook. There would be absolutely no point in getting her an i7 or even an i5. You don't need the best hardware to be above the "bare minimum".
And by the way, that analogy makes no sense (ignoring the fact that I didn't say anything you could analogize). Are you saying that people should buy top of the line desktops when they need portability? There is a market for laptops you know.

you were cool before
you made great threads and posts in windows & linux
now
you're downright dumb

But you bought the netbook for portability not converting blu-ray movies to mkv files
your point is invalid
Well logically anyone who buys an i3 buys it because they can't afford a x58 setup.
...
Come on now.
I'm stuck with an EVGA 680i motherboard, an E6600 C2D, an 8800GTS 640MB, and 4GB of DDR2 800.
I can't afford a new upgrade until tax season in two months.
Do we care?
Besides it's not like any of that is trash you spoiled child.

oh no you poor person how will you cope with such horrible spec
Think yourself lucky, there are people with much worse of PC's and they still put up with it, I had a Pentium4 + nvidia 440 64mb for 9years as my gaming PC before I could afford a decent setup.
Christ there are some spoiled kids here.
ontopic:
What improvements will we see with USB 3.0? or do we need to wait for some 3.0 devices to be released?
I don't think USB 3.0 will be fully utilized until 3-4 months after it's release.
And will USB 3.0 devices will be backwords compatible with USB 2.0?

You should have though ahead and bought a better processor with some more of your precious headroom and more ram so you wouldn't need to upgrade.

duh
yeah i am sure those screaming fast QX6850s would last for years to come!

You're a tool. Stop wasting precious bytes on my ram with your fail attempt at sounding smart.

You're 2 days late and have nothing but a painfully obvious joke based on an account that you clearly made for just this sort of reply.
buy it in Taiwan.

because waiting a little longer ONCE is worth hundreds of dollars
it's not like it can't do it, it just takes longer

but why the fuck would you buy a netbook for converting blu-ray movies, the majoriety of netbook screens dont even have a HD res apart from the new ION ones :downs:
Person: "Oh my gran is having some problem with her eeepc 901"

Person: Shes having trouble converting her blu-ray of Transformers 2 into a MKV file"

you two are late but I give you bad spelling instead
