After watching the one German in the woods video thought I'd make this thread.
They've been around before I'm sure but I guess this is version "whatever".
Great great grandpa was in WW1, have a picture of him posing in his uniform with the early war spike helmet will have to see if I can find the picture
Great grandpa was a staff sergeant in a flak unit in the Luftwaffe on the eastern front. He lived through the war from beginning to end. For whatever reason he refused to eat corn because he deemed it as "pig farm food".

The little girl on the right in the picture is my grandma, their neighbour was in the DAK and when he came home on leave once he brought her a sea turtle from Africa as a pet/gift. So they took this bigass turtle and drilled a small hole near the front top of its shell (the part that isn't connected to skin or anything so it didn't hurt the turtle) and they put a rope through it and tied it. So they had a turtle on a leash. Lol other kids in the neighbourhood had their pet dogs and cats, my grandma walked a sea turtle around on a rope.
My grandpa when he was young living in Fankfurt am main, his younger sister was in the hospital with pneumonia (he would have been about 12 and her being 7 or 8) and just by (bad) luck, the day after she is admitted in the hospital the Americans do a bombing run on the city, the hospital is half collapsed, my grandpa crawls through the rubble and finds his dead sister and carries her body home. Pretty sad.
Had a great uncle who was a door guard at the Fuhurbunker for a little while before being repositioned
Had a great uncle who was part of an Einsatzgruppen on the eastern front
Other great grandpa was a motorcycle courier delivering packages and messages between officers and he always had to try and hide his motorcycle from the Americans cause they would confiscate it if they found it.
